Rejeet al assfoura
Fairuz Lyrics

Overall Meaning

Fairuz's song "Rejeet al Assfoura" is a powerful and emotional reflection on the difficult and tumultuous history of Lebanon. The opening lines describe the return of a bird to its nest on a rooftop, and the re-blooming of the jasmine flowers. The arrival of winter brings the gathering of lovers, along with the return of children to school for the snow and holiday season. However, despite these signs of life, there is a palpable sense of loss and mourning pervading the lyrics.

The second verse deals with the absence of friends and loved ones who have left and will never return. The singer mentions names from her notebook, including Youssef Kantraji, a peddler of gasoline, and Amin al-Bawab, who was killed at his door. These figures serve to represent the many people who were lost in Lebanon's violent conflicts.

The final verse is a call for hope and resilience in the face of destruction. Despite the damage inflicted on the country by war, the singer proclaims that they will return, the real Lebanon of simplicity and beauty is coming back. The song ends with a powerful image of childhood and heroism growing together, as the light of dawn illuminates life once more.

Overall, "Rejeet al Assfoura" is a moving and poignant tribute to the spirit of the Lebanese people in the face of tremendous hardship and loss.
