Fairuz was born Nouhad Haddad in Jabal al Arz, Lebanon. She began her musical career as a teenager. From chorus girl at the Lebanese radio station in the late 1940s, to critical and popular acclaim from the 1950s to today, Fairuz is acknowledged not only for her musical talent and contribution, but also as a cultural and political icon. A symbol of a people, a heritage, a quest for peace, and of humanity. During most of her career, Fairuz reflected two other great artists, Assi and Mansour Rahbani. They wrote the lyrics and composed her tunes. Today, many of her songs reflect the composing talent of Ziad Rahbani who is Fairuz's son. Her songs testify to the Rahbani musical genius, as well as to Fairuz's broad musical background. Referred to as "The Soul of Lebanon" in the 1970s, Fairuz became a pre-eminent figure, a superstar of current music in the Arab world. Together, the Rahbani family is both a school of music and a cultural phenomenon.

The song "Ya Ahl Al Dar" by Fairuz begins with a simple plea to the owners of the house to give the singer something to drink and to sell them something. However, throughout the lyrics, the song develops into a nostalgic tribute to the memories and experiences the singer has had in the house. The repeated phrase "Ya Ahl Al Dar" ("O owners of the house") functions as an address to the people who have made the singer feel at home and provided them with love and warmth.
In the second verse, the singer asks the owners of the house to bring out their beloved ones, referring to those who create joy and excitement in the house. The language used throughout the song is poetic and emotive, with images of flames and drunkenness conjuring up memories of wild nights spent with friends and loved ones.
Later in the song, the singer reminisces about the beauty and scent of the roses that were grown in the house and addresses a neighboring girl, telling her not to be upset with them for what has happened. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, encouraging the owners of the house to bring out their beloved ones and continue the joyous celebrations.
Overall, "Ya Ahl Al Dar" is a song that evokes a sense of warmth, nostalgia, and community - a celebration of the simple pleasures of life and the bonds that tie people together.
