Fairuz was born Nouhad Haddad in Jabal al Arz, Lebanon. She began her musical career as a teenager. From chorus girl at the Lebanese radio station in the late 1940s, to critical and popular acclaim from the 1950s to today, Fairuz is acknowledged not only for her musical talent and contribution, but also as a cultural and political icon. A symbol of a people, a heritage, a quest for peace, and of humanity. During most of her career, Fairuz reflected two other great artists, Assi and Mansour Rahbani. They wrote the lyrics and composed her tunes. Today, many of her songs reflect the composing talent of Ziad Rahbani who is Fairuz's son. Her songs testify to the Rahbani musical genius, as well as to Fairuz's broad musical background. Referred to as "The Soul of Lebanon" in the 1970s, Fairuz became a pre-eminent figure, a superstar of current music in the Arab world. Together, the Rahbani family is both a school of music and a cultural phenomenon.

The song "Ya Habibi Koulama" by Fairuz speaks about memories of a past that are being recalled through the sounds of horses galloping at night. The opening line of the song, "They were, my love, the snow, the neighing, and the horses," sets the scene for the listener. The sound of horses riding through the snow and neighing creates a beautiful scene that the singer wants the listener to remember. The images of the horses and their rider at night, trotting and galloping under the stars and through the darkness, create a beautiful, almost magical, atmosphere of the past.
As the song continues, the singer mentions that the sounds of the horses and their riders' voices once took them on a journey, towards the horizon and the fire. This creates the idea that the journey these people were on was tough and full of obstacles, and the horses were the only ones who could guide them through. In the chorus, the singer makes a promise not to forget the memories that were shared and to remember them every time the song is heard.
Overall, the song "Ya Habibi Koulama" speaks of nostalgia and the memory of a past that was full of gallantry and adventure. The singer wants the listener to remember the beauty of the past and the moments that they shared with the people they love.
