Come Home
Faith Hill Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hello world, hope you're listening
Forgive me if I'm young
Or speaking out of turn
But there's someone I've been missing
And I think that they could be
The better half of me
They're in the wrong place trying to make it right
But I'm tired of justifying
So I say to you

Come home, come home
'Cause I've been waiting for you
For so long, so long
And right now there's a war between the vanities
But all I see is you and me
To fight for you is all I've ever known
So come home

I get lost in the beauty of everything I see
The world ain't as half as bad
As they paint it to be
When all the sons, all the daughters stop to take it in
Then hopefully the hate subsides and the love can begin
It might start now
Maybe I'm just dreaming out loud
But until then

Come home, come home
'Cause I've been waiting for you
For so long, so long
And right now there's a war between the vanities
But all I see is you and me
To fight for you is all I've ever known, ever known
Come home

Everything I can't be
Is everything you should be
And that's why I need you here
Everything I can't be
Is everything you should be
And that's why I need you here
So hear this now

Come home, come home
'Cause I've been waiting for you
For so long, so long
And right now there's a war between the vanities
But all I see is you and me
To fight for you is all I've ever known, ever known

Come home, come home
'Cause I've been waiting for you
For so long, so long
And right now there's a war between the vanities
But all I see is you and me
To fight for you is all I've ever known, ever known

Overall Meaning

The song "Come Home" by Faith Hill is a powerful emotional ballad that deals with missing someone who is in the wrong place trying to make things right. The opening lines suggest that the singer is speaking directly to the person they miss, admitting that they are young and perhaps inexperienced, but they need to express what's in their heart. The chorus is a plea for the person to "come home" because the singer has been waiting for them for so long, and even though there is conflict in the world around them, it's clear that the two of them are the only thing that matters.

The second verse shifts the focus slightly, as the singer acknowledges that there is beauty in the world despite the hate and conflict that dominates so much of the news. They seem to be suggesting that if people took a moment to appreciate that beauty, the hate would subside and love could begin. But ultimately, the message is still the same - this person is everything the singer can't be and everything they should be, and that's why they need them to come home.

The song is a poignant reminder that no matter how tough the world may seem, human connection and love can make all the difference. It's a plea to set aside petty conflicts and come together for the sake of what's truly important - each other.

I love it. Yes, OneRepublic's version is great. Ryan makes it haunting, a slow song with deep emotion. But Faith's version makes it radio friendly. And I want nothing more than to hear this song on radio. One amazing song, two amazing artists, it's great.
