After releasing six studio albums, including best-selling records The Real Thing (1989) and Angel Dust (1992), Faith No More officially announced its breakup on April 20, 1998. The band has since reunited, conducting The Second Coming Tour between 2009 and 2010, and releasing its seventh studio album, Sol Invictus, in May 2015. After the touring cycle of Sol Invictus, Faith No More went on hiatus once again. In November 2019, the band announced that it would reunite to embark on a 2020 UK and European tour, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this was postponed. Touring was due to recommence with a brief US tour in September 2021, followed by the previously postponed UK and Europe dates in June 2022, but all tour dates were cancelled with Patton citing mental health reasons.

Faith No More Lyrics

So turn to the mirror and blow yourself a kiss
It goes just like this
You've done it a thousand times
It's as easy as drinking wine, only now it's blood
Here it come again
(Treating you so kind)
(Leaving you no mind)
Your feelings, they flow without reason
So look to the stars above and
Blow it all away
I come without warning
Some call me morning
I wipe all your tears away, the evil ones I kill
Here it comes again
(Treating you so kind)
Till it comes again
(Leaving you no mind)
Taking the form of pain this time
It never treats you unkind
Your followers, lead them blind
And suck away their lives
Cause yours depends on it
Here it comes again
Chasing the night away
The lyrics to Faith No More's Faster Disco touch on the theme of vanity and the superficiality associated with it. The opening lines, "Styling, you know you are styling, So turn to the mirror and blow yourself a kiss," suggest that the subject is taking pleasure and pride in their appearance and doesn't shy away from acknowledging it. The following line, "It goes just like this, You've done it a thousand times, It's as easy as drinking wine, only now it's blood," implies that this person's self-obsession (or vanity) has become a significant part of their identity, almost like an addiction.
The next few lines of the song, "Your feelings, they flow without reason, So look to the stars above and Blow it all away," suggest that this individual might feel overwhelmed by their emotions at times and requires guidance or a higher power to help them cope. The lines "I come without warning, Some call me morning, I wipe all your tears away, the evil ones I kill," could be interpreted as a reference to the idea of an awakening or realization, where the subject's vanity is exposed as harmful rather than positive.
The song's chorus, "Here it comes again, (Treating you so kind) Till it comes again, (Leaving you no mind)," seems to embody the cycle that people with addictions face, where they experience highs but also lows, and the addiction itself has a hold on them. The bridge, "Taking the form of pain this time It never treats you unkind Your followers, lead them blind And suck away their lives, Cause yours depends on it," points out the dangerous position of leaders, influencers, or popular figures that can have a significant impact on their followers, leading them to follow destructive patterns. The final line, "Here it comes again Chasing the night away," seems to suggest that the subject is still stuck in this cycle and must deal with the consequences of their choices.
