Introduce Yourself
Faith No More Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

From the day I was born, I took the bull by the horns, and gave you
Plenty to scorn, well right on! then you said in a song that life was
Gettin real tough, but hey I think that you're bluffing, what of it?

Introduce yourself (right on)
Now two decades gone by and I know that's a long time, para tiempo means
Nada nunca. cause I'm still the same asshole and I still wet my pants
Every time that I see your face (who are you)

Introduce yourself (right on)

Hey Mr. Biggs, hey mr. Bestall, hey Mr. Warner what's up?
Hey Mr. Enigma, hey mr. Bigtime, hey Mr. Epic, what's going on?

Introduce yourself (right on)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Introduce Yourself" by Faith No More are a commentary on the absurdity of fame and the idea that people can change over time. The singer claims to have been a rebel from the day they were born, always challenging authority and making others resent them. They mock the idea that life is tough and that they should be upset by the criticisms they receive, declaring that they are unbothered by others' opinions.

Two decades have passed since the singer was born, which they describe as a long time. They use the Spanish phrase "para tiempo" (meaning "for time") to emphasize that time has passed without any change in their personality. Despite their claims of fearlessness and independence, they admit that they still feel weak and vulnerable when encountering certain people, including those they name-drop in the last stanza.

Line by Line Meaning

From the day I was born, I took the bull by the horns, and gave you plenty to scorn, well right on!
Ever since I was born, I have been taking control and making bold moves, even though some people may disapprove. But I am not afraid to be myself and stick to my guns.

Then you said in a song that life was gettin real tough, but hey I think that you're bluffing, what of it?
I heard your song about how hard life is, but honestly, I don't believe you. What does it matter anyway if you don't have the courage to be honest about your struggles?

Introduce yourself (right on)
I am challenging you to introduce yourself and be authentic. It's important to know who you really are and not hide behind a facade.

Now two decades gone by and I know that's a long time, para tiempo means nada nunca. cause I'm still the same asshole and I still wet my pants every time that I see your face (who are you)
It's been a long time since we last saw each other, but time doesn't change who I am. I may still be a bit immature and intimidated by you, even though we have both grown up. So, tell me, who are you really?

Hey Mr. Biggs, hey mr. Bestall, hey Mr. Warner what's up? Hey Mr. Enigma, hey mr. Bigtime, hey Mr. Epic, what's going on?
I am addressing different people by name, some of whom may be acquaintances or authority figures. I am asking them what's happening in their lives and challenging them to be honest and real with me.

This was, is and will be my FNM's fav album. Im casualty re listening it after long years. Still there is a lot inside to discover and enjoy..Classic masterpiece. Rip Chuck Mosley. His work here is beyond all of us.

@agathisrobusta

Me too. Actually I think it's the only album of theirs I like. Good times being a young skateboarder when this came out.

Straight up classic album! Been listening to this album over the last few days. I remember a friend recorded this to cassette tape for me in high school. Iโ€™d roll it on the way to school in my truck. Chuck was an amazing vocalist. Extremely thankful that he left us with this amazing recording.

Ok, so for me, the first of their albums I listened to was Angel Dust, and when I first heard this here album I couldn't understand why it was somehow a little bit different to what I was used to. I'm not sure I even realized it was actually someone other than Mike Patton singing vocals. Anyway, now that I'm older budweiser, I think this is a really good album, and I also really like Chuck Mosely's singing (even though he sometimes sounds like he could use a sudafed). Yep, this album proves to me Faith no More had something going even before Mike Patton joined the team.
