After releasing six studio albums, including best-selling records The Real Thing (1989) and Angel Dust (1992), Faith No More officially announced its breakup on April 20, 1998. The band has since reunited, conducting The Second Coming Tour between 2009 and 2010, and releasing its seventh studio album, Sol Invictus, in May 2015. After the touring cycle of Sol Invictus, Faith No More went on hiatus once again. In November 2019, the band announced that it would reunite to embark on a 2020 UK and European tour, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this was postponed. Touring was due to recommence with a brief US tour in September 2021, followed by the previously postponed UK and Europe dates in June 2022, but all tour dates were cancelled with Patton citing mental health reasons.

Light Up and Let Go
Faith No More Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm gonna blow up in your face
You know the way
You gotta light up and let go
(I won't, I won't, I won't, I won't)
You'd better let go
Let go
You wanted flames
But now your tears won't put out the blaze
Before you run away
Know that I cannot let go
(I won't, I won't, I won't, I won't)
You'd better let go
Let go
You'd better let go
You're as good as what you leave behind
Remember to smoke your high
Remember to laugh out loud
You left me cold and blind
The way you're holding me
I'm gonna blow up in your face
You know the way
You gotta light up and let go
In Faith No More's song Light Up and Let Go, the lyrics describe a tumultuous relationship where one person is holding onto the other so tightly that they feel like they are going to blow up in their face. The singer urges their partner to let go and light up instead – to release their grip and enjoy life. However, it seems that the partner is reluctant to do so; they originally wanted the excitement and flames of the relationship, but now that it's causing pain and tears, they can't bring themselves to walk away. The singer acknowledges this, but still insists that they need to let go in order for things to move forward.
The chorus repeats the command to let go, which seems to have a double-meaning. On one hand, it reflects the need for the partner to release their grip on the relationship and enjoy themselves, as previously mentioned. On the other hand, it has a darker implication – the idea of a bomb or explosion that needs to be released in order to prevent harm. This metaphor could be seen as a warning to the partner, suggesting that if they don't let go and relax a bit, they could end up causing damage to themselves or others.
Overall, the lyrics of Light Up and Let Go paint a picture of a tense relationship where one person is holding the other back from enjoying life. The singer encourages their partner to let go and live a little, but it's unclear whether or not this advice will be taken to heart.
