Hurricane
Faker Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I stand in line
That kid's not right
Some line of sight
Still got the hype

Hurricane's gone to school
La la la, ooh la la la, ooh la la la
Hurricane breaks the rules
La la la, ooh la la la, ooh la
Hurricane makes it good
La la la, ooh la la la, ooh la la la
Hurricane knew you would
Knew you would, yeah knew you would

I've got new shoes
Intellegence included
I fit right in
Still I somehow feel deluded

'Cause Hurricane's gone to school
La la la, ooh la la la, ooh la la la
Hurricane breaks the rules
La la la, ooh la la la, ooh la
Hurricane makes it good
La la la, ooh la la la, ooh la la la
Hurricane knew you would
Knew you would, yeah knew you would

Ooh la la la, ooh la la la, ooh la
Hurricane makes it good
La la la, ooh la la la, ooh la la la
Hurricane knew you would
La la la, ooh la la la, ooh la
Hurricane knew you would
Knew you would, yeah knew you would

I've got bad news
I've never been included
I try too hard
Still I somehow feel deluded

Cause Hurricane's gone to school
La la la, ooh la la la, ooh la la la
Hurricane breaks the rules
La la la, ooh la la la, ooh la
Hurricane makes it good
La la la, ooh la la la, ooh la la la
Hurricane knew you would
Knew you would, yeah knew you would

Ooh la la la, ooh la la la, ooh la
Hurricane makes it good
La la la, ooh la la la, ooh la la la
Hurricane knew you would
La la la, ooh la la la, ooh la

Hurricane knew you would
Knew you would, yeah knew you would

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Faker's song Hurricane seem to be reflecting on the singer's feelings of insecurity and being an outsider. The first verse suggests that the singer is in a line, possibly waiting for something, and notices a kid who doesn't fit in. This line of sight makes the singer feel like they still have the "hype" or energy that comes from being young and rebellious. However, the chorus brings in the character of Hurricane, who seems to be the opposite of the singer- someone who breaks the rules and makes it look good. The repetition of Hurricane "knowing" that they would be able to succeed adds to the sense of internal comparison- the singer thinks they try too hard and never fit in, while Hurricane seems to effortlessly be able to navigate social situations.

In the second verse, the singer brings up their new shoes and intelligence, both of which would typically be seen as positive attributes. However, the line "still I somehow feel deluded" suggests that they don't feel like these things are truly making them fit in or accepted by others. The chorus repeats with the same message, but the final stanza brings a twist as the singer shares that they have bad news- they've never felt included. The repetition of feeling "deluded" in both the first and last verses suggests that the singer might be struggling with feelings of inadequacy and impostor syndrome.
