Love for Sale
Faker Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Handbrake, mistrust, disbelief
Give me the emergency exit key
Bulwer juice bottle and chief
I'm calling this a state of emergency
I never had the chance not to drink
I tell you that I'd given you anything
You gotta love the one that you're with
To come and stop me giving you everything
Because

My love's for sale
I don't need it anymore
And if I fail, and if I fail
You'll hold my face back from the floor

Heartbreak at the hands of the thief
Is killing me with some kind of urgency
They told me you'd be out in a week
And i'm thinking that i'd owe an apology
Help me, are you feeling this heat?
Yeah, we can lie and join the academy
Go and love the one that you're with
I'm calling this a state of emergency
Because

My love's for sale
I don't need it anymore
And if I fail, and if I fail
You'll hold my face back from the floor

My love's for sale, my love's for sale
I don't need it anymore
I hope I fail, I hope I fail
You'll hold my face back from the floor

If it's all, all down hill from here
Then it's all, all down hill from here
If it's all, all, all down, down hill from here
But then it's all, all, all down, down hill from here

Handbrake, mistrust, disbelief
At least they'll never get you for vagrancy
Broken down in need of relief
I've know you long enough won't you dance with me?
Because

My love's for sale
I don't need it anymore
And if I fail, and if I fail
You'll hold my face back from the floor

My love's for sale, my love's for sale
I don't need it anymore
I hope I fail, I hope I fail
You'll hold my face back from the floor

If it's all down hill from here
Then it's all, all down hill from here

Overall Meaning

In Faker's song "Love For Sale", the opening lines suggest the singer's distress and desperation. They contemplate an "emergency exit key" and "state of emergency", revealing a desire to escape from their current circumstances. The handbrake, mistrust, and disbelief reflect the singer's feeling of being stuck and unable to move forward. They also mention a "Bulwer juice bottle" and "chief", which could refer to drugs or alcohol as a means of coping with their troubles.

The chorus sets the tone for the rest of the song, with the singer declaring that their love is for sale and that they no longer need it. It's unclear who this love is directed towards, but the singer desires to give everything to this person. However, they also state that this person needs to reciprocate the love in order to stop them from giving everything.

The singer continues to grapple with heartbreak and feelings of urgency. They mention a thief who has caused them tremendous pain and that they owe someone an apology. The singer pleads for help in dealing with the intense emotions they are experiencing. They suggest that lying and joining an academy could be a solution to their problems. The singer concludes the song on a more hopeful note, inviting someone they've known for a long time to dance with them, as if to suggest that there is still hope for love and connection.

@flowerboogerface

Brilliant! I was fortunate enough to see these guys live TWICE! Once in a packed out stadium in Melbourne and once in a cosy setting in a Frankston pub. I was sooo close to them the second time. Unbelievable.

@drunkpaulocosta9301

Hey i was at both of those gigs. Was the Coke live in the stadium yeah?

@drunkpaulocosta9301

I was at both the frankston gig and the coolstores one in mooroduc cause my mates band was the support act.

I saw them a suprising nunber of times never intentionally or specifically to see them. But i can tell you now i miss them ALOT more than anyone they played with.

Nathan was uncontainable on a big stage. I remember seeing him jump as high as he could off a speakee tallee rhan he was at Big day out.

Had to be like 8ft in the middle of a set haha
