Stay Away
Fall Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I was a young man, yeah, I really knew it all
When I was young, why I just, yeah, really knew it all
So if you'll listen to an old dog bark
You might see that hole before you fall

I'm gonna lay something on you, then I'm gonna move on out
Gonna lay something on you, moving on out
You can take it or leave it, I know what I'm talking about

I've damn felt the pain
I'm beaten down by the pouring rain
But it hard to get off the old white train
Yeah, the old white train costs a lot to ride

Your heart, your soul and even your pride
Damn sure forever, it'll freeze your brain
Yeah, take a little advice, stay away from the old white train

Cocaine
I've felt the pain
I'm beaten down by the pouring rain
But it hard to get off the old white train

Yeah, the old white train costs a lot to ride
Your heart, your soul and even your pride
Damn sure forever, it'll freeze your brain
So take a little advice, stay away from the old white train

Take a little advice, stay away from the old white train

Cocaine

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the song "Stay Away" by Fall are a warning to young people about the dangers of drug abuse, particularly cocaine. The singer, who admits to being somewhat arrogant and sure of himself as a young man, is now older and wiser and tries to pass on his hard-earned experience to those who listen. He talks about the pain he's felt, the way that drugs can take a toll on the body and the mind, and how getting off of drugs can be a difficult task. He paints a vivid picture of the "old white train" that can take a person on a dangerous and self-destructive ride, costing them everything from their pride to their brain.

The title "Stay Away" is a clear message, mirroring the singer's wish for young people to avoid the pitfalls he's experienced. The refrain "take a little advice, stay away from the old white train" is repeated several times, emphasizing how important it is to heed his warnings. Cocaine, which is mentioned in the final verse, is perhaps the most insidious of the drugs that the singer warns against. He then repeats the chorus, advising his listeners to take a little advice once again, and steer clear of the old white train.

Overall, the song is a powerful reminder of the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of making good choices in life. The singer, with his years of experience, seems to be pleading with the younger generation to learn from his mistakes so they can avoid the same pitfalls.

"Stay"

Morning comes slow today
Memories push through from yesterday
Where will I be tomorrow
What do I have to show

From my life
Stay
I need you here for a new day to break
Stay
I want you near like a shadow in my wake

Flow with life down the drain
Memories and force of will sustain
Where will I be tomorrow
What will be left to show

From my life
Stay
I need you here for a new day to break
Stay
I want you near like a shadow in my wake

It's the little things
Little things
Little things
That make the world

Stay
I need you here for a new day to break
Stay
I want you near like a shadow in my wake

After all these years, I still don't understand why these legends are so underrated !! I suppose very few people in this world have such good taste in music. Really glad to be one among them.

@fuchiabut54

totally agree!

@0525ohhwell

They are talented and good at this style of music. Other bands are talented and excellent at other styles. There are just way too many bands and too few slots on the charts.

Your taste in music isn't THAT amazing. There are tons of other people who feel the exact same way for other bands.

I think so, too. The songs are unique. I love them... Music for life... THX
