Smoke and Mirrors
Fallen To Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And now I take my time
To stand out in between
No one to rest on
No one to lean on
Tell them to be
Patient with what you
Have accomplished
I choke, I cannot breathe
This thing it crushes me
I try but I can't speak
I need to

No-one can stand back
Down (no more)
What do we need
For us to fight again?

Listen to your soul
What is it you hear
Scarred from the inside
From when you last cried
Think what you did
This is what happens
When it's over

I choke, I cannot breathe
This thing it crushes me
I try but I can't speak
I need to

No-one can stand back
Down (no more)
What do we need
For us to fight?

Dig this needle in
We will never be
Rid of all we have

No-one can stand back
Down (no more)

What do we need
For us to fight?

Overall Meaning

The song "Smoke and Mirrors" by Fallen To speaks about the struggles that an individual goes through while standing out and trying to achieve success. The lyrics imply that the person has achieved their goals but has no one to rely on or have support from. The idea of being overwhelmed by the success they have attained is expressed through the line "I choke, I cannot breathe, this thing it crushes me." The artist wants to convey that it is important to take a moment and reflect on the accomplishments and the internal struggles that come with it. The line "Listen to your soul, what is it you hear" indicates that deep introspection and self-reflection are crucial in achieving peace and balance.

The second verse talks about perseverance and overcoming adversity, with the line "Think what you did, this is what happens when it's over." The lyrics suggest that the sacrifices made in the past will eventually lead to success, and it is important to keep pushing forward even when things get tough. The bridge "Dig this needle in, we will never be rid of all we have" signifies the pain and struggle that is often necessary to achieve what one wants, but also implies that the success achieved is worthwhile despite the pain.

Hey everyone.

Christian here, unfortunately we had some devastating news a couple of weeks ago that James passed away. Everyone from FT and his family + friends are completely gutted.

James was the most genuine and passionate person on the planet. He was loved by everyone who met him.

The world is a little less bright without him.

In honour we remastered the Which Side of the Line EP and redistributed it on all stream services. We also added the demo ‘Ail’ (recorded in 2003) which we played on the Mudvayne tour a lot and had some beautiful moments from James.

Wish everyone love,

Christian and FT

My band were lucky enough to support Fallen To at The Park in Peterborough in the early 00s. This was easily my favourite song out of any band we ever played with.
