Drugs
Falling in Reverse Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

'Cause everybody's on drugs

Kill yourself is what they said to me
I'm already dead, just differently
They say God is real, I disagree
'Cause if that were true, then we'd all be free, all be free, ya, ya
Running from something that's killing me
Dealing with such an uncomfortable feeling
Beginning to feel the hostility
From my ability of slowly becoming the villain
I just wanna thank all my fans especially
Without you is the death of me
I don't consider myself a celebrity
But I'll be doing this shit till I'm 70
This is my destiny, this is the best of me
It's an incredible feeling to grow
Letting it go, I'm letting you know
We're killing ourselves on the low

Everybody wants some, everybody gets none from me

'Cause everybody's on drugs
It's hard to believe, the American dream is a killing machine
We're all falling in love with a new disease
If it's killing you, then it's murdering me
It's all getting so unbelievable
We're having so much fun, staring down a loaded gun
And you don't see that it's killing you
'Cause everybody's on drugs

Save yourself is what I'm telling you
'Cause nobody else really has a clue
Into your veins, vein, like heroin
Accept the pain, pain just to feel again, feel again

Everybody wants some, everybody gets none from me

'Cause everybody's on drugs
It's hard to believe, the American dream is a killing machine
We're all falling in love with a new disease
If it's killing you, then it's murdering me
It's all getting so unbelievable
We're having so much fun, staring down a loaded gun
And you don't see that it's killing you

Everybody is dead from the neck up
Tryna keep their heads up, searching for a way out
This is a dying nation, so complacent
Spirits need awakened, what are we waiting for?
Fuck, die
Just die, motherfucker, die, motherfucker, die
(Die, die, die, die, die)

'Cause everybody's on drugs
The American dream is a killing machine
Everybody's on drugs
If it's killing you
It's so fucking unbelievable
We're having so much fun, staring down a loaded gun
And you don't see that it's killing you
'Cause everybody's on drugs

'Cause everybody's on drugs
The American dream is a killing machine
'Cause everybody's on drugs

If it's killing you
'Cause everybody's on drugs

Overall Meaning

The song "Drugs" by Falling in Reverse is a commentary on the state of American society and the excesses that come with it. The first line, "Cause everybody's on drugs," is a statement that no one is immune to the problems that drugs can cause. The line, "Kill yourself is what they said to me, I'm already dead, just differently," shows that the singer has already given up on life in a way that is different from physically dying. The idea of being dead inside is a common theme in rock music and relates to the idea of feeling like an outcast.

The second verse of the song begins to delve more into how drugs have affected society as a whole. The line "It's hard to believe, the American dream is a killing machine" is a commentary on how many people in America strive to achieve wealth and fame but it often comes at a cost. The singer goes on to say "We're all falling in love with a new disease, if it's killing you, then it's murdering me." This line speaks to the idea that the glorification of drugs in our culture leads to a situation where everyone is affected by it in some way.

Overall, "Drugs" is a scathing critique of the excesses of American society and how drugs have become a pervasive presence in all of our lives. The singer encourages listeners to focus on saving themselves because no one else has a clue how to help.

Words cannot express how much this song means to me. It has gotten me through the hardest of times and has aided in my healing journey.

Trigger warning drugs overdose death Alcoholism

My mother was an addict and I pretty much took care of her as a kid because if she wasn't missing she was too high to function. She finally sobered up in 2016 and I felt like I Finally had a mother, but she died January 2020 and there was so much left unsaid. This song helped me make peace with that part of my past, the part where my mom was too high to know i existed.

Ive seen my friends corpse, overdosed, he been laying there for a while he was so stiff... still... it still haunts me walking in and finding him like that. I've seen my friends overdose on multiple occasions as have I.

October of last year my friend overdosed in my kitchen. I was trying to help him, in his journey for sobriety, you know service like they preach in AA? Plus he was my friend I wanted to help.

He was such a good dude, and he was doing good until his cousin died of overdose. That night he refused to talk to me, I knew he was upset who wouldn't be? I said I'm here if you need to talk about it. He said no he had to be strong for his fam. He went into the bed room and I assumed he went to bed.

Next thing I know I wake up in the morning to him overdosing on my kitchen floor. I called 911 and they brought him back but it really broke my heart, he felt like a bro to me. He overdosed on ice. He promised he wouldn't bring it in my house. He was a sweetheart though, good person, but the drugs....well you know..

I'm 15 years sober from Coke and speed. Right now I'm battling Alcoholism. I was recently released from the hospital from an unalive attempt and Alcohol withdrawal.

I'm a chronic binge drinker now, I'll drink till I piss blood or even drink myself to death if no one stops me. I don't want to be this way, I've been through detox more than once from drinking myself to the point of no return.

Something just takes over me even tho I'm involved in AA and other programs I still relapse. But this song soothes my soul, it reminds me why I need to fight for sobriety.

This is my all time favorite song and even music video. The visuals are so appealingas well.. just brilliant

Keep on making music.
