Dead On Arrival
Fallout Boy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
'Cause I'd never say no to you
This conversation's been dead on arrival
And there's no way to talk to you
This conversation's been dead on
A rivalry goes so deep between me
And this loss of sleep over you
This is side one
Flip me over
I know I'm not your favorite record
The songs you grow to like never stick at first
So I'm writing you a chorus
And here is your verse
No, it's not the last time
'Cause I'd never say no to you
This conversation's still dead on arrival
And there's no way to talk to you
When you're dead on
A rivalry goes so deep between me
And this loss of sleep over you
This is side one
Flip me over
I know I'm not your favorite record
The songs you grow to like never stick at first
So I'm writing you a chorus
And here is your
Whoo!
This is side one Flip me over
I know I'm not your favorite record
So-o-o-o
This is side one
Flip me over
This is side one
Flip me over
I know I'm not your favorite record
The songs you grow to like never stick at first
So I'm writing you a chorus
And here is your verse

The song "Dead On Arrival" by Fallout Boy is about a dysfunctional relationship between two people. In the first verse, the singer expresses their hope that this will be the last time they have to have an unpleasant conversation with the other person. They also make it known that they would never say no to this person, despite the difficulty in talking to them. The singer concludes that this conversation is "dead on arrival," implying that it has no chance of being successful.
The chorus of the song continues with the theme of a challenging relationship. The singer admits to having a "rivalry" with this person, which is causing them to lose sleep. This line suggests that their competition goes beyond a romantic relationship and is perhaps more negative in nature. The refrain of the chorus repeats the line "This conversation's been dead on arrival" and adds an emphasis on the emotional state of the singer.
The second verse of the song introduces the idea that the person the singer is addressing does not like them very much. They refer to themselves as not being the other person's "favorite record." However, the singer is not discouraged by this and commits to writing a chorus that they hope the other person will appreciate. The song ends with both verses repeating followed by a final chorus.
Overall, "Dead On Arrival" paints a picture of a challenging relationship in which the singer is determined to work things out despite the difficulties. The song includes several musical references, such as flipping over a record and writing a chorus, which add to the overall tone of the piece.

Three things:
1. This makes me want to join a band;
2. The people at this show were so lucky and probably had no idea;
3. They still put the same amount of energy into their performances now as they did then, while remaining totally humble, and that amazes me. <3

Being in a local band myself, the goal is never to get big. If that was your goal, that's where you see the energy diminish. The goal is always to have fun because you love doing it. When that attitude changes, so does the show.
