Can you believe in something that your eyes have never seen
Still your questions go unanswered by your fallen king
Nowhere to turn but your prayers to grant you release
Those words are never to be heard
An idol through the eyes of all those that are left to believe
The view is different through the eyes of the early deceasedI live for me and no one else for I'm a demigod
I'm living free until the darkness takes me
On the words of a myth you built your lives
You used your faith to cauterize
All the wounds brought forth by the son of the sky
Yet still you follow
I can't feel anymore
Don't know what it means to have thoughts of my own
Through a lake of fire
And beyond these charred burned walls I dwell
I am your devastation
This dark lord's procreation
This is the meaning of fear
What do you believe in
A divine abomination bent on deceiving
How can you believe in
A puppet master pulling the strings
I can't feel anymore
Don't know what it means to have thoughts of my own
Through a lake of fire
And beyond these charred burned walls I dwell
What do you believe in
I am a demigod
I can't feel anymore
Don't know what it means to have thoughts of my own
Through a lake of fire
And beyond these charred burned walls I dwell
I can't feel anymore
Don't know what it means to have thoughts of my own
Through a lake of fire
And beyond these charred burned walls I dwell
In the song "Demigod" by False Witness, the lyrics delve into themes of questioning faith, beliefs, and one's own identity. The opening lines ponder the concept of belief in something intangible or unseen, highlighting the inner conflict faced by individuals who seek answers from a higher power but find themselves met with silence. The imagery of a fallen king and prayers for release evoke a sense of desperation and disillusionment with established religious figures.
The reference to being an idol through others' eyes suggests a disconnect between the perceptions of those who place their faith in external sources and the singer who asserts their independence and self-reliance as a demigod. The contrast between the viewpoints of the living and the deceased underscores a defiance against societal norms and expectations, challenging the idea of living for oneself rather than conforming to external influences.
As the lyrics shift to a reflection on collective beliefs founded on myths and faith, there is a critique of blind adherence to dogma as a means to numb the pain caused by existential questions. The imagery of cauterizing wounds with faith speaks to the numbing effect of religious fervor on personal agency and critical thinking, highlighting the struggle between following the beliefs of others and seeking individual truth.
The recurring refrain of not being able to feel anymore and dwelling beyond charred walls implies a sense of isolation and emotional numbness, perhaps resulting from a traumatic or disillusioning experience. The declaration of being a demigod carries a tone of defiance and self-assertion amidst a backdrop of fear and uncertainty, suggesting a rejection of external authority and a reclaiming of personal power. Overall, the lyrics of "Demigod" by False Witness convey a complex narrative of inner turmoil, questioning of societal norms, and a quest for individual agency and authenticity in the face of doubt and disillusionment.
