The Bridge
False Witness Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Of impending doom
Across the silver bridge
My shadow will always loom
Red eyes burning
The air turning cold
My time has come the bridge will fall
Along with you
My time has come the bridge will fall
Along with you
I watched you drown
From atop the bridge
Without a sound
The icy water pulls you in
I am an angel of death
Embrace the cold
I'me here to take you
The young and the old
I tried to warn you
99 will die
Fire, steel and ashes
Raining from the sky
I watched you drown
From atop the bridge
Without a sound
The icy water pulls you in
I am an angel of death
Embrace the cold
I'm here to take you
The young and the old
Face your fate
Look into my eyes
It's far too late to save yourself
So say your goodbyes
The lyrics of "The Bridge" by False Witness depict a haunting and ominous warning of impending doom. The persona in the song describes themselves as a foreboding figure, with their shadow casting a lingering presence across a silver bridge. The imagery of red eyes burning and the air turning cold creates a chilling atmosphere that sets the tone for the tragic events that are about to unfold. The repetition of the line "My time has come the bridge will fall, Along with you" reinforces the sense of inevitable destruction and impending catastrophe.
As the story unfolds, the persona recounts witnessing a tragic event from atop the bridge, where they observe someone drowning without a sound. The imagery of icy water pulling the victim in evokes a sense of helplessness and impending doom. The persona assumes the role of an "angel of death," embracing the cold and declaring their presence to take both the young and the old. This portrayal suggests a sense of inevitability and acceptance of fate, as well as a hint of a higher power or supernatural force at play.
The lyrics further intensify as the persona delivers a grim prophecy, warning that 99 will die amidst fire, steel, and ashes raining from the sky. This apocalyptic imagery adds to the sense of impending disaster and the inescapable nature of the fate that awaits. The repetition of the imagery of watching someone drown and being an angel of death reinforces the persona's role as a harbinger of tragedy and reminds the listener of the inevitability of their fate.
In the final lines of the song, the persona urges the listener to face their fate and look into their eyes, signaling that it is too late to save themselves. The directive to say their goodbyes emphasizes the finality of the impending doom and the acceptance of the inevitable. The overall tone of the lyrics is dark, foreboding, and filled with a sense of finality, creating a haunting narrative that explores themes of fate, mortality, and inevitability.

There’s no way you guys made this masterpiece. One of my all time favorite songs. Y’all made it sound mean AF and it’s perfect. Heavy riffs, ear-blowing solos, hair-raising buildups followed by extreme breakdowns and pissed-off vocals/screams…FUCK to the YES. This pit would be insane and I’d be all for breaking necks in it. As a die hard Trivium/LOG/Killswitch fan myself, you guys completely murdered it. Lots of potential, hope to see more soon.
