This Is Suffering
False Witness Lyrics

Not an angel in sight
No loved ones to comfort me
Twisted sinews of rope hold me down
Menacing laughter echoing all around me
Dead by one's own hand
Writhing in gore on the harvest floor
A new chance at life awaits you insideBut only if you're willing to die by our terms this time
This is suffering
Where dreams go to die
And no one will rest in peace
A prison for cowards
Tonight you dine with the swine
Heaven's design made without you in mind
Not even hell holds a place for your wretched kind
A life of sin
That not even God can forgive
Mutilated, desecrated
Bodies I see all around
Blank stares, dead eyes
You're fucked
Out of time
This is suffering
Where dreams go to die
And no one will rest in peace
A prison for cowards
Tonight you dine with the swine
Feed the pig
The lyrics of False Witness's song "This Is Suffering" paint a vivid picture of despair and hopelessness, starting with the singer opening their eyes to a bleak reality devoid of angels or loved ones. The imagery of twisted sinews of rope holding them down, with menacing laughter echoing around, creates a sense of entrapment and isolation. The mention of being dead by one's own hand and writhing in gore on the harvest floor suggests a brutal and violent demise, setting a grim tone for the narrative.
The lyrics introduce the idea of a new chance at life awaiting the singer inside, but it comes with a chilling condition – they must be willing to die by the terms set by others. This juxtaposition of death and rebirth underscores the theme of sacrifice and the notion that redemption or a fresh start may come at a significant cost. The repeated refrain of "This is suffering, where dreams go to die" emphasizes the harsh reality of the situation and the absence of solace or peace in this world of torment.
The lyrics further explore the concept of divine judgment and rejection, as the singer is portrayed as someone forsaken even by heaven and not fitting in even in hell. The reference to a life of sin that not even God can forgive speaks to a profound sense of guilt and irredeemability. The imagery of mutilated and desecrated bodies, with blank stares and dead eyes, reinforces the atmosphere of horror and finality, suggesting a world filled with atrocities and loss.
The conclusion of the lyrics, with the line "Tonight you dine with the swine, feed the pig," adds a gruesome and dehumanizing touch to the narrative, casting the singer into a state of degradation and degradation. The overall imagery and themes in the song convey a sense of unrelenting suffering, despair, and a cycle of violence and torment. It evokes a world where redemption seems out of reach, and even in death, there is no escape from the relentless cruelty and darkness that permeate the existence of the singer.
