Trying times and dark days
It's just becoming darker
Itโs still the same sad story

Falz's song "Johnny" is a powerful and poignant social commentary on the senseless killings and violence that have plagued Nigeria for years. The song tells the story of Johnny, an innocent and hardworking young man who is shot and killed by trigger-happy police officers for no reason. The lyrics highlight the societal issues of inequality, poverty, and corruption that lead to these senseless killings, questioning why people continue to allow them to happen.
The song is divided into two parts - the first part tells the story of Johnny's death and the second part focuses on the aftermath of his death. Falz's lyrics are biting and unforgiving as he questions the systemic issues that lead to the needless loss of life in Nigeria. The chorus of the song, "Johnny just dey come" repeated over and over, emphasizes the idea that victims of these senseless killings are just everyday people going about their lives, innocent of any wrongdoing.
Overall, "Johnny" is a powerful song that serves as a social commentary on the issues plaguing Nigeria. It brings attention to the senseless violence and killings that occur all too often and calls for change and accountability.

If the two verses are translated to another language, they will lose their literary aesthetic. To be more detailed, the rhetoricalness of the verses will remain but the rhyme and pun they share will be lost.
Falz simply played on two Yoruba words:
"Maku" meaning "will die"
"Maku" meaning "will remain"
In essence, he is saying that if the killings continue, many will die and only a few will remain.๐๐

Who else believe Falz is one of the best things that happened to this generation?

This song is more significant than all the songs and album released in Nigeria in the last two months. Falz's artistry is Grammy worthy.
