In September 2005, Fantasia published her memoir (which she dictated to a freelance writer), Life is Not a Fairy Tale. In it she revealed that she is functionally illiterate. She discussed this in an interview on 20/20, saying she hadn't been able to read contracts, and she simply memorized the songs she was told to perform and sing on her records.

The things you told me (uh)
Had me open (I)
Gave you something (I)gave nobody else (else)
Led me to believe (you)
Had just what I need
Now I see it's game
You put on a show
Kept the music slow
Got all up in my ear
Saying things that I love to hear
Tears came to my eyes
But I'm not gonna cry
Everything that you ever said turned out to be all lies
[Chrous]
But its all good
Didn't care that you broke my heart
It's all good
Let you have you hit and run
But it's all good
You mistaked my love for fun
Boy you played the part just to get to my heart
It may hurt but it's all good
It's all good
Didn't care that you broke my heart
It's all good
I Let you have you hit and run
But it's all good
You mistaked my love for fun
Boy you played the part just to get to my heart
It may hurt but it's all good
[VERSE 2]
You had her in my car
Like she was the star
Promised I would be
If I satisfied all your needs
I feel like a fool
Cuz I trusted you
Did what I didn't wanna do
Just cuz you wanted me to
I gave you my, soul and my, just don't know why
Couldn't not, recognize, you were about lies
All my girls out there
Just cuz he says he cares
You can't believe everything that he spits in your ear
[Chrous]
But its All Good
You Didn't care that you broke my heart
But its all good
I let you have you hit and run
But it's all good
(Hey) You played my love for fun
Boy you played the part just to get to my heart
It may hurt but it's all good
(Ooh) It's all good
You didn't care that you broke my heart
It's all good
You mistaked my love for fun
But it's all good
(Hey) I let you have you hit and run
Boy you played the part just to get my heart
But its all good
[Bridge]
To all of my girls that have been hurt
Brush the dirt off cuz it's all good
To all of my girls that have been hurt
Throw ya hands up girl it's all good
To all of my girls that have been hurt
Brush the dirt off cuz it's all good
To all of my girls that have been hurt
Throw ya hands up girl it's all good
[Chrous]
It's All Good
Shouldn't let you break my heart
But It's all good
Should've known it from the start
But it's all good
Boy you played around with my heart
You just played the part just to get my heart
It may hurt but it's all good (it hurts, it hurts)
But It's all good
You played with my heart
But It's all good
See Fantasia's from the hood
But it's all good
(Heyyyy)(Oooh) (Heart, My Heart, But It's All Good)
[Bridge]
To all of my girls that have been hurt
Brush the dirt off cuz it's all good
To all of my girls that have been hurt
Throw ya hands up girl it's all good
To all of my girls that have been hurt
Brush the dirt off cuz it's all good
To all of my girls that have been hurt
Throw ya hands up girl it's all good
Fantasia Barrino's song "It's All Good" is a powerful anthem about overcoming heartbreak and disappointment. In the song, she reflects on a past relationship in which she was manipulated and lied to. The first verse describes how the partner led her to believe that he had just what she needed, only for her to discover that it was all a game. He pretended to care about her and said all the right things, but in reality, everything he ever said was a lie. However, despite the pain and hurt, Fantasia reassures herself that it's all good. She didn't care that he broke her heart, and he mistook her love for fun. She played the part just to get to her heart, but she's going to be okay.
The chorus of the song is an affirmation that she's going to be alright. She lets him have his hit and run and acknowledges that it may hurt, but it's all good. She's not going to let him drag her name through the mud, even though he played her for a fool. In the second verse, Fantasia describes how the partner had another woman in her car, pretending like she was the star. He promised her the world but only if she satisfied all his needs. She feels foolish for trusting him and doing things she didn't want to do just to please him. She gave him her soul and her heart, thinking he cared about her, but it turns out that he was just about his lies.
The bridge of the song is a call to all the girls who've been hurt to brush the dirt off and throw their hands up because it's all good. The song ends with another chorus that reinforces the message that even though he played with her heart, she's going to be okay. She's from the hood, and it hurts, but it's all good.
