Cobra
Far From Alaska Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

But if you wanna leave a scar you have to cut a little deeper
Oh yeah, oh right, you don't use a knife
You use this motherfucking poison
Like a red spitting cobra
A red spitting cobra

Creeping calls no attention
Shades of red for disguise
Prey on trash talks and kill the truce
Wait on words to collide

What doesn't kill me might kill someone else
So move on, I know we should get along
Yeah, yeah, I wish you'd had enough and leave it alone
But you don't, so I'll remind you this before I'm gone

That if you wanna leave a scar you have to cut a little deeper
Oh yeah, oh right, you don't use a knife
You use this motherfucking poison
Like a red spitting cobra
A red spitting cobra

But if you wanna leave a scar you have to cut a little deeper
Oh yeah, oh right, you don't use a knife
You use this motherfucking poison
Like a red spitting cobra
A red spitting cobra

Oh my god, I feel intoxicated
Dizzy, disturbed, enraged, it's so frustrating
Why? Did I ever do anything to deserve this kind of
Oh my god, I feel intoxicated
Dizzy, disturbed, enraged, it's so frustrating
Why? Why? Why?

But if you wanna leave a scar you have to cut a little deeper
Oh yeah, oh right, you don't use a knife
You use this motherfucking poison
Like a red spitting cobra
A red spitting cobra

But if you wanna leave a scar you have to cut a little deeper
Oh yeah, oh right, you don't use a knife
You use this motherfucking poison

Like a red spitting cobra

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Far From Alaska's song "Cobra" depict a situation where someone is dealing with a toxic and harmful individual. The song explores the idea that if you want to inflict lasting damage on someone, you have to go beyond mere physical harm and instead resort to emotional manipulation and poisonous behavior.

The opening lines, "But if you wanna leave a scar you have to cut a little deeper, Oh yeah, oh right, you don't use a knife, You use this motherfucking poison," suggest that the singer is aware of the power of emotional manipulation. Instead of using a physical weapon like a knife, they employ psychological tactics to hurt their target. The image of a "red spitting cobra" is used metaphorically to symbolize the poisonous nature of their actions.

The following lines, "Creeping calls no attention, Shades of red for disguise, Prey on trash talks and kill the truce, Wait on words to collide," describe how this toxic individual operates. They operate in the shadows, disguising their true intentions with deceptive behavior and manipulative words. They thrive on conflict, actively seeking out opportunities for confrontation and strife.

The chorus repeats the message that if one wants to leave a lasting impact on someone, they need to go beyond physical harm. The use of profanity emphasizes the severity and intentional cruelty behind the emotional damage inflicted. The metaphor of the "red spitting cobra" is reinforced, serving as a reminder of the destructive force the toxic individual possesses.

The bridge of the song expresses the frustration and confusion felt by the singer. They feel intoxicated, dizzy, disturbed, and enraged by the toxic person's actions and wonder why they have become a target. It showcases the emotional toll that dealing with a toxic individual takes on them.

Overall, "Cobra" delves into the complexities of toxic relationships and the destructive power of emotional manipulation. It serves as a cautionary tale about the lasting scars that can be inflicted when someone resorts to poisonous behavior instead of physical violence.
