OUT OF TIME
Farlowe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You don't know what's going on
You've been away for far too long
You can't come back and think you are still mine

You're out of touch my baby
My poor old fashioned baby
I said baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
Well, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
I said baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
Yes you are left out, yes, you are
I said you're left out of there without a doubt
'Cause baby, baby, baby, you're out of time

You thought you was a clever girl (clever girl)
Giving up your social whirl (social whirl)
You can't come back and be the first in line, oh yeah
You're obsolete, my baby
My poor, unfaithful baby
I said baby, baby, baby, you're out of time

Well, baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
I said baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
Yes, you are, you're left out, yes, you are
I said you're left out of there without a doubt
'Cause baby, baby, baby, you're out of time

Baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
I said baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
Yes you are, you're left out, yes, you are
I said you're left out, out of there without a doubt
'Cause baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
(Is everybody ready)
Baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
You thought you was a clever girl
(Baby, baby, baby, you're out of time)
You're livin' in that social whirl

(Baby, baby, baby, you're out of time)
Yes you are right now

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Chris Farlowe's "Out of Time" showcase the frustration of a lover who has been left behind by their partner while they were away. The song highlights the fact that the world moves on even when we don't want it to, and just because the person thought they were the only one doesn't mean that the other person was waiting around.

The repeated insistence that "baby, baby, baby, you're out of time" emphasizes the fact that the person is no longer relevant in the singer's life. The singer highlights that the person is "out of touch" and "out of time," emphasizing that their actions have left them in the past. The clever girl who gave up her social whirl is now left behind as her lover moves on without her.

This song showcases the pain of being left behind while highlighting the fact that sometimes, it's just time to move on.
