I need a little leeway and an angel to watch over me
Don't give up on me
Don't give up on me
Cause I know I let you down girl
Once, twice, or maybe three
I fell into temptation
Won't you tell me that you'll wait for me
Don't give up on me
Don't give up on me
Don't give up on me
Don't give up on me
Riding down the freeway, I've got to stay free
I need a little leeway and an angel to watch over me
Don't give up on me
Don't give up on me
Don't give up on me
Don't give up on me
Don't give up on me, please
Don't give up on me
The lyrics to Fastball's song "Don't Give Up On Me" are about someone who is riding down the freeway, dodging responsibilities and trying to stay free. They ask their partner to not give up on them despite the fact that they have let them down multiple times. The mention of an angel watching over them could either be a figurative or literal reference to someone who they look up to or who they believe is keeping them safe. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the plea to not be given up on.
The first verse talks about the singer's desire to be free and have some leeway in their life. They want to make their own choices and not be held down by anyone or anything. However, they realize that they need someone, specifically their partner, to support them and not give up on them. The second verse refers to the singer's past mistakes and how they have let their partner down. They are aware of their shortcomings and are asking for forgiveness and patience. The repetition of the chorus is a reminder to the partner to not give up on them, even when things get tough.
Overall, the song is about the struggle between freedom and responsibility, and how sometimes we need someone to support us even when we don't feel worthy.
