In my car I can't afford to go very far
It needs a new transmission and new brakes
Parking tickets
I cannot pay
They're gonna have to tow me away
Tow me away
We're outta groceries again
Ain't got no money to spend
The credit card is maxed out
So let's get high
'Cause it's raining all the time
And the rain's been seeping through my mind
But I get by
I've got a nasty rash on my rocker
I can't afford to go see the doctor
I know I'll be all right in a couple of weeks
Happy hour,
That's where we're meeting
Eat for free as long as you're drinking
Hey that ain't no problem
For you and me
We're outta groceries again
Ain't got no money to spend
The credit card is maxed out
So let's get high
'Cause it's raining all the time
And the rain's been seeping through my mind
But I get by
We're outta groceries again
Ain't got no money to spend
The credit card is maxed out
So let's get high
'Cause it's raining all the time
And the rain's been seeping through my mind
But I get by
Yeah I'm all right It's all right
Fastball's song "Seattle" paints a vivid picture of the struggles and hardships faced by a young couple trying to make ends meet in the rainy city. It tells a story of a couple who are struggling with financial difficulties and cannot afford to do much but are finding ways to cope with their situation. The couple is riding around in their car that can't afford to go very far, with a transmission and brakes that need repairs. They've gotten parking tickets they can't pay and can't keep up with their grocery bills. Their credit cards are maxed out, and they can't afford to see a doctor when one of them gets sick.
The chorus of the song conveys a message of resilience and perseverance despite the hardships they face. They'll find a way to cope, and they'll get by, even if they have to get high to escape the reality of their life sometimes. The lyrics, "And the rain's been seeping through my mind, but I get by," evoke the sense of the constant dreariness and gloom that Seattle is known for, which compounds their stress and anxiety. Yet, they remain determined to make the best out of their situation.
Overall, the song presents a stark contrast to the glitzy and glamorous portrayal of American life often seen in media and popular culture, touching on the intricate struggles and hardships of life that many face but rarely talk about.
