Fat Freddy's Drop Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And my mouth is dry
Well, this journey's told,
Is a mountain high.
Though the wind she burns,
Like an ageless flame,
She will give me strength,
So I can move again.
And though my people may not be many,
We are ready for the storm to come.
And though my people may not be many,
We are ready to be strong as one.
And though my people, travel light,
They are willing to fight the fight. Willing to fight the fight
And though my people may not be many we are ready...
We've got to find a way,
Let it be done, let it be done. Ooh
Do you want to keep the faith,
Until the storm has broken?
We have got to find a way,
To rise above the pain...
My men come, he cross the waters.
My men come he cross the seas, yes.
He has the sons, he has the daughters,
But he brings with him sea, ooh.
And though my people may not be many,
We are ready for the storm to come.
And though my people may not be many,
We are ready to be strong as one.
And though my people, travel light,
They are willing to fight the fight. Willing to fight the fight
And though my people may not be many we are ready, yeah.
We've got to find a way,
Let it be done, let it be done. Ooh
Do you want to keep the faith,
Until the storm has broken, yeah.
We have got to find a way,
To rise above the pain...
The industry, will never find me,
Here among the trees.
My footsteps will be...
Will be all that I leave.
Oh lonely island, so rich and fair,
We leave your shores for reasons unclear.
Looking for a, better life,
And you are all that I need.
Hey,
All that I need.
In Fat Freddy's Drop's song The Raft, the singer speaks of a journey that is both physical and metaphorical. The journey is arduous and difficult, as evidenced by the line "Though my hands are cold, and my mouth is dry, well this journey's told, is a mountain high." However, the singer finds strength in the wind, which "burns like an ageless flame" and gives the singer the strength to continue moving forward.
The singer speaks of their "people," who may not be many, but are ready for the storm to come and willing to fight. The metaphor of the storm is repeated throughout the song, suggesting that the journey is not only difficult, but also dangerous. The singer believes that their group is ready to face whatever challenges come their way, and they are willing to do so together as a united force.
The song also speaks to the idea of leaving one's home in search of a better life. The singer mentions an island that they leave for "reasons unclear," suggesting that they may not even fully understand why they are leaving. However, they believe that the journey is necessary in order to find a better life, and they express gratitude for the strength and support of their "people."
Overall, The Raft is a song about resilience, strength, and unity in the face of adversity. The journey is difficult, but the singer and their people are ready and determined to face it together.
