Formed in New York City in 1970, the Fatback Band was the concept of Bill Curtis, an experienced session drummer, inspired to merge the "fatback" jazz beat of New Orleans into a funk band. In addition to Curtis, the band's initial line-up included guitarist Johnny King, bassist Johnny Flippin, trumpet player George Williams, saxophonist Earl Shelton, flautist George Adams, and keyboardist Gerry Thomas. The band specialized in playing "street funk". The group also later included conga player Wayne Woolford, vocalists Jayne and Gerry, Deborah Cooper saxophonist Fred Demerey, guitarist Louis Wright and George Victory.

Close together my dear
We done seen the town
We done boogied down
I can feel your heat
Coming through the sheet
Oh baby don't mess around
It's time to get down, down, down
Baby let's live together
Let's love together
I know you need me
Now come on and feed me
Feed me, feed me your love, love
I'm hungry
Feed me your love
Lord knows I'm hungry
We've been laying here
Close together my dear
We done seen the town
We done boogied down
I can feel your heat love
Coming through the sheet
Baby don't mess around
It's time to get down, down, down
Down, down
Baby let's live together
Let's love together
I know you need me
Now come on and feed me
Feed me, feed me your love
I'm hungry
Ooh, ooh, ooh
I'm hungry
Feed me your love
Lord knows I'm hungry
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Feed me your love
Eh, eh
The lyrics to the Fatback Band's song "Put Your Love In" are about a couple who have been spending time together and enjoying each other's company. They have been out on the town and have been dancing, and now they are together in bed. The singer can feel the heat of his partner, and he is ready to get down to business. He urges his partner to feed him with her love and acknowledges that he is hungry for it.
The lyrics of the song are provocative and may be interpreted as sexual in nature. However, they are also about the power of love and the need for physical intimacy in a relationship. The singer is expressing his desire for his partner, and he is asking her to reciprocate.
The song has a funky and upbeat sound that is emblematic of the disco and funk music of the 1970s. The bass line is prominent, and the horns and keyboards provide a catchy melody. The song is meant to get people dancing, and it has become a classic of the disco genre.
