Kyrie eleison
Fates Warning Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Never thought my time was coming
Wasn't in my dreams
Twice I visioned I was falling down
Down to the ground, I screamed out loud
Woke on a cloud
Never really a holy man even though
I understand the father son and Holy Ghost
He's the one that scares me most
Ashes to rain you feel no pain.
Hell fire burn my conscience, my mind explodes
Spine is severed, blood runs cold, confess the
Deepest of sin, envision a king
With a white violin
Crucifix hung above my death bed begins
To bleed
Imagination, lunacy, has he come to hear my plea
Grant absolution condone my sin
The lady in black I ask what do you see
A glimpse in your glass what good
Fortune for me
The lady in black said your lifeline is damned
The tarot of death card she held in her hand
Kyrie Eleison Christie Eleison
Kyrie Eleison Christie Eleison
Segments of my life flask through my mind
Things never seen
It must be fate warning me for now
The walls are closing in. Rosary in hand
Last grain of sand
Here I go I start to fall again
Try to scream I'm mute it is the
End of my last fall
To the land of nevermore
Shatter her glass I woke on he floor
The lady in black I asked what do you see
A glimpse in your glass what good fortune for me
The lady in black says your lifeline is damned
The tarot of death card she held in her hand

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Fates Warning's "Kyrie Eleison" suggest a journey through the mind of the singer. They never thought their time was coming, and twice they had dreams of falling to the ground before waking up on a cloud. The singer admits that they were never really a holy person, but they understand the concept of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. The singer seems to be haunted by the unknown, represented by a king with a white violin and the fear of Hellfire burning their conscience. In their imagination or perhaps madness, the crucifix above their death bed begins to bleed. The Lady in Black, a symbol of death, is consulted with a tarot card reading that reveals the singer's lifeline is damned. The song ends with the singer shattering a glass and waking up on the floor, possibly symbolizing a newfound sense of awareness.

Fates Warning is one of the greatest progressive metal bands of all time. Being from Hartford, Connecticut I saw them numerous times in the day. The Agora Ballroom still holds memories for me. They are and will remain very influential in the metal genre.

Jacob Wallingford

Agora Ballroom Cleveland? I was born too late to see that :(

Dwight Gaylor

they actually were air force brats they meet Ray will living in El Paso tx, not real sure of the whole story but evidently Ray didn't have anywhere to go so the guys took him back to Connecticut where they became true band mates. its almost hard to see, but Ray is Mexican and didn't speak English real well at the time as Spanish was his mother tonge, Ray is a native texan but for some reason went to Juárez, maybe family was there. they are a very interesting band and over the years their music has improved as a fine wine. really glad they meet each other and decided to take care of one another, they have given us the beautiful gift of music.. I hope they plan on sticking around for a while

@Dwight Gaylor read the true story in the book Destination Onward. It's a book that just came out about the history of Fates Warning.

This movie had the best soundtrack.
I have the DVD and watch all the time. I remember seeing this as a teen and loving it.
When I worked at Gold's Gym Crispin Glover would always come in around Sundance time to work out. He and I would talk movies. He loved the fact that I new him for more than Back to the Future. He brought me an autographed promotion flyer from when River's Edge came out. It was autographed by him and Dennis Hopper. That's my most prized possession.

Never struck me as a guy who hit the gym. Pretty cool. He seems like an interesting guy.

This is the best movie if you want a taste of what the '80's were actually like.
