All by Myself
Fats Domino Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey, Little girl, don't you want to stay?
I want to be your lover man
All by myself
All by myself

I don't need no one to love you, I'm gonna love you all by myself

You'll find, little girl, you know it too
Don't you know I'm in love with you
All by myself
All by myself

I don't want no one to love you, I want to love you all by myself

Meet me in the parlor 'bout half past one
We'll go on down and have some fun
All by ourselves
All by ourselves
We don't need nobody with us, we gonna do it all by ourselves

Meet me in the parlor 'bout half past one
We'll go on down and have some fun
All by ourselves
All by ourselves
We don't need nobody with us, we gonna do it all by ourselves

Hey, Little girl, don't you want to stay?
I want to be your lover man
All by myself
All by myself

We don't need no one to love you, we gon' love you all by myself

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Fats Domino's song "All By Myself" tell the story of a man asking a woman to be his lover and assuring her that he doesn't need anyone else to love her. The repetition of "all by myself" emphasizes his desire to have her all to himself, without any interference or distractions from anyone else. He urges her to meet him in the parlor where they can have some fun alone, without anyone else present.

The tone of the song is playful and flirtatious, and the upbeat rhythm and melody add to its lightheartedness. However, the lyrics also reveal a sense of possessiveness and jealousy, as the man insists that he doesn't want anyone else to love her but him. It implies a lack of trust and insecurity within the relationship.

Overall, the lyrics of "All By Yourself" display a mix of desire, possessiveness, and an insistence on independence in love. The song's catchy tune and playful nature helped make it a hit for Fats Domino in the 1950s.

Dave Bartholomew*, one of the architects of rock and roll, passed away at the age of 100 on June 23rd, 2019...
He partnered with Fats Domino on early rock classics including co-writing “Ain’t That a Shame.” The New Orleans trumpeter, band leader, producer, songwriter, and arranger was involved in many iconic songs including “Lawdy Miss Clawdy,” “Blueberry Hill,” “I’m Walking,” and “I Hear You Knocking”...
Bartholomew was band leader for one of New Orleans premier R&B bands when he became an A&R man for Imperial Records. At Imperial, he brought in Fats Domino, working with him on combining R&B with big band, jazz, and country to create early rock and roll. Bartholomew was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991...
As noted on the above record label, Mr. Bartolomew was a co-composer, along with Fats, of "All By Myself, and on October 13th, 1955 the record peaked at #1 {for 3 weeks} on Billboard's Most Played R&B Record by Jockeys chart...

I fully agree with you. I went to the recordshop every week in the 50th to see if a new record of Fats was released.

We'd come down from Alabama to those music stalls at the Hang Out in Panama City, hear Fats sing a song we'd never heard, like, "Ain't that a Shame", (back home they were still playing Eddie Fisher) and it was totally another world. We'd watch those Italian boys from Birmingham with their ducktails and wish to Heaven we had hair like that. Pretty little girls from all over the South, and some of us would end up married to one . Fats brought the joys of youth!

That was my all-time favorite Fats Domino recording. I would play it 10 times in a row and still not get tired of hearing it. Loved that bass line, and Fats' piano rhythm was spectacular.
