Fats Domino Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, let's talk it over
Baby from the start
I heard about the way you over
Do your part

And don't you lie to me
Oh, don't you lie to me
Because it makes me mad
And I'll get evil as a man can be

There is two kind of people
I just can't stand
And that's a lyin' woman
And a thievin' man

Oh, don't you lie to me
Oh, don't you lie to me
Because it makes me mad
And I'll get evil as a man can be

Well, I'll be wishin'
There's a house and home
But mama please don't let me catch you
Doin' wrong

Oh, don't you lie to me
Oh, don't you lie to me
Because you makes me mad
And I'll get evil as a man can be

Yes, there's a proposition
I will give to you
You give me all your lovin'
If I give mine to you

But don't you lie to me
Oh, don't you lie to me

Because it makes me mad
And I'll get evil as a man can be

Overall Meaning

In Fats Domino's hit song Don't You Lie To Me, he sings about a woman who he suspects is being unfaithful and dishonest with him. The song begins with Fats asking the woman to talk it over and not to lie to him from the start. He has heard about the way she behaves and warns her against lying to him as it makes him mad, and he can get evil as a man can be. The two kinds of people he cannot tolerate are a lying woman and a thieving man. Fats wishes for a house and home, but he warns the woman against doing anything wrong as he cannot tolerate dishonesty.

Fats Domino is willing to give the woman a proposition; if she gives him all her love, he will give her his. However, he warns her against lying to him as it will make him mad, and he can become evil as a man can be. The song is a warning to the woman whom he suspects is being unfaithful to him not to lie to him as he comes with dire consequences.

I love it! I wrote a song called dirty old hound dog and tried to monetize it. YouTube told me the melody and rhythm were already copyrighted.

They said Don’t Lie To Me by Fats Domino, 1951 - already owned.

I thought it was so awesome! I feel important now

This is the very 1st song Fats, Dave Bartholomew (producer), Cosimo Matassa (engineer) and Fats' band recorded on that thar new-fangled magnetic tape. Everything before that went straight to vinyl disc.
