Telling Lies
Fats Domino Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You've been telling me lies and I know it
There's no love in your eyes 'cause it's showing
Cause every time I hold you in my arms
You just lie, lie, lie, lie, lie

You said you wanted me for your honey
But all you wanted was my money
You didn't even try to make me satisfied
You just lie, lie, lie, lie, lie

You know you made me love you
When your rolled those great big eyes
Although I didn't know it
They were only stirring up lies

You've been doing me dirty, and you hide it
I know I can't leave 'cause I've tried it
So, just as long as you hold me in your arms
You can lie, lie, lie, lie, lie

You know you made me love me
When you rolled those great big eyes
Although I didn't know it
They were only stirring up lies

You've been doing me dirty, and you hide it
I know I can't leave 'cause I've tried it

So, just as long as you hold me in your arms
You can lie, lie, lie, lie, lie

Overall Meaning

The song "Telling Lies" by Fats Domino is about a person who is being lied to by their lover. The lyrics express the frustration of being in a relationship where the other person is not honest and truthful. The singer of the song knows that their partner is lying to them, and that there is no love in their eyes anymore. Despite this, they continue to hold onto the relationship and accept the lies.

In the second verse, the singer reveals that their partner only wanted them for their money and never tried to please them. The chorus repeats the idea that every time they are together, the partner lies to them. The bridge of the song reveals that the singer was initially fooled by their partner's big eyes, which were stirring up lies.

The song ends with the singer acknowledging that they are being treated unfairly but staying in the relationship anyway. This shows the power that love and attachment can have over a person, despite knowing that they are not being treated right.

I was so sad to hear that Antoine "Fats" Domino has passed away and left the world this morning. The pride of New Orleans Louisiana "Fats" who with his boogie-woogie bouncing piano style helped create and invent "Rock & Roll" back in the early and mid 50's. He inspired so many. Signed to the Imperial record label, "Fats" burst on the scene with "Ain't that a shame" in 1955 and the rest is Rock & Roll" history and selling millions of records through out the years! He was a true innovator, creator,  inventor and yes a PIONEER of "Rock & Roll". Absolute one of the first top 5 "Rock & Roll" Hall of fame inductees.Time or tide waits for no one, but its so sad that another legend has passed. I was lucky enough to see "Fats" close up and in concert a couple of times in NY back in the early &  mid-80's and he was great, Awesome as always. He stole the show! REST in PEACE "FATS "on Blueberry Hill and I thank you for ALL the music and memories you've given us.....Ain"t that a shame, Blueberry Hill, Blue Monday, Im Walkin', Josephine, I want to walk you home, Walking to New Orleans, I'm gonna be a wheel someday............RIP........."FATS".......
