Walking to New Orleans
Fats Domino Lyrics
This time I'm walkin' to New Orleans
I'm walkin' to New Orleans
I'm gonna need two pair of shoes
When I get through walkin' these blues
When I get back to New Orleans
I've got my suitcase in my hand
Now ain't that a shame?
I'm leavin' here today
Yes, I'm goin' back home to stay
Yes, I'm walkin to New Orleans
Till you spent all my money
No use for you to cry
I'll see you by and by
'Cause I'm walkin' to New Orleans
I've got no time for talkin'
I've go to keep a-walkin'
New Orleans is my home
That's the reason why I'm goin'
Yes, I'm walkin' to New Orleans
I'm walkin' to New Orleans
I'm walkin' to New Orleans

Walking to New Orleans is a 1960 song, written for Fats Domino by Bobby Charles. The story goes that when Fats Domino stopped on tour in Lafayette, Louisiana, he invited Bobby Charles backstage, but as Fats didn't have a copy of his new record to give to Charles, he invited Charles to come visit him in his home in New Orleans. Charles replied, "I don't have a car. If I'd go, I'd have to walk." Afterwards, the thought remained on Charles's mind, and he’s said to have written the song for Fats in some 15 minutes.

This is one of those songs that ends WAY too soon. It's beautiful, I wish it went on for several more minutes.

He never left New Orleans. Not even Hurricane Katrina could force him out. One of the all-time greats in blues. It’s been a long walk, bruh. Rest In Peace.

Makes it sound less deep when you realize that he's been walking very short distances ;) from new orleans to new orleans haha

I may be wrong, but I think even Elvis Presley, the king of R&R, said that he considered Fats Domino to be his superior in the music world.
