La Llorona
Fea Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was out of control
And he was all I could see
I turned my back on my people
Just so he′d be with me
I waited for him, and after all this time
He fell for someone else
He was no longer mine
I lost my mind!

And now they're dead
And now they′re both dead
Their little bodies are floating in the water
I couldn't stay
I couldn't stay
Ended my life and now I′m left to wander here

Mis hijos
Mis hijos
Mis hijos
¡Ay, mis hijos!
¡Ay, mis hijos!
¡Ay, mis hijos!

Her skin matched his
I knew where she came from
He wanted someone like him
To let her raise our young?
He thought he′d come here and take them from me
He thought he'd drop me and start a new family
Over my dead fucking body!

Well, now they′re dead
Well, now they're both dead
Their little bodies are floating in the water
I couldn′t stay
I couldn't stay
Ended my life and now I′m left to wander here

Mis hijos
Mis hijos
Mis hijos
¡Ay, mis hijos!
¡Ay, mis hijos!
¡Ay, mis hijos!

Well, now they're dead
Yeah, now they're both dead
Their little bodies are floating in the water
I couldn′t stay
I couldn′t stay
Ended my life and now I'm left to wander here

Mis hijos
Mis hijos
Mis hijos
¡Ay, mis hijos!
¡Ay, mis hijos!
¡Ay, mis hijos!

Mis hijos
Mis hijos

Mis hijos
¡Ay!

Overall Meaning

The song "La Llorona" by Fea starts with the story of a woman who is so in love with a man that she turns away from her own community to be with him. She waits for him for a long time, but he falls in love with someone else. In her frustration and anger, she ends up killing both her children and the object of her affection before ultimately taking her own life. The lyrics convey her sense of desperation and immense grief as she mourns the loss of her children and the life she had once hoped to have.

The chorus of the song - "Mis hijos, ay mis hijos" - is a poignant refrain that is repeated throughout the song. The woman is consumed by her overwhelming sense of loss, and the repetition of the words emphasizes this sense of grief. The lyrics also convey a sense of anger and betrayal towards the man who betrayed her, as well as a disturbing willingness to take violent action in the face of that betrayal.
