In April 2009, a new lineup was announced with Cazares returning and Gene Hoglan as drummer. Bell and Stroud are both reprising their respective roles, and the band completed a seventh studio album entitled Mechanize. Former members Christian Olde Wolbers and Raymond Herrera (both currently playing in Arkaea) dispute the legitimacy of the new lineup, and a legal battle is underway from both parties. The band has performed at three Ozzfests as well as the inaugural Gigantour and has had singles in the US Mainstream Rock Top 40 and albums in the Billboard Top 40, 100, and 200. The band has sold more than 1 million albums in the US alone.
Digimortal
Fear Factory Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
One step
As I witness the death of innocence
A predator feeding on its creation
Through the fallout of this hallucination
I (I) walked into darkness
Or this body will become carrion
One step closer
One step closer to my grave
One step closer
One step closer to the fate
As I witness my own degeneration
The future condemns me
The lyrics to Fear Factory's "Digimortal" paint a bleak picture of a man coming to terms with his mortality. He begins by observing the decay of innocence, as a predator feeds on its own creation. The lyrics seem to reference the cycle of violence and destruction perpetrated by those in power, as they exploit and consume the vulnerable.
As the singer walks deeper into darkness, he resolves not to surrender to any higher power, lest his own body become carrion. He takes one step closer to his own grave, accepting the inevitability of death. The lyrics suggest a sense of resignation or acceptance, as the singer witnesses his own degeneration and the future condemning him.
Overall, the lyrics to "Digimortal" are a haunting exploration of themes like mortality and power dynamics. The singer grapples with the reality of his own mortality, while also critiquing the systems that perpetuate violence and destruction.
