more love
Feargal Sharkey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't wanna talk about it
I don't even wanna hear his second name
Cause I don't give a damn about him
It's none of my affair who's stepping out with you these days

Well I'm sure his heart is willing and he's tall and lean and strong
But a pretty face can only hold your interest for so long
When there's more love for you in my heart than his could ever hold

I don't understand this baby
Is there some kind of lesson I'm supposed to learn from this
You know that I love you baby
But do I have to wear your name tattooed across my wrist

Well I'm sure he gives you everything his wallet will allow
And his words are poems of passion or what passes for it now
But there's more love for you in my heart than his will ever hold

Oh I tried to lose you baby
I beat my head against the post
But I wake up in a cold sweat
And I swear I see your ghost
If I thought he'd make you happy
I'd let you go at my expense
But from what I've seen, what I've heard,
I ain't all that convinced

Oh I'm sure you mean the world to him and he's all things to you
But from what I've seen, what I've heard, I doubt it
For there's more love for you in my heart than his will ever hold

More love for you in my heart than his could ever hold

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Feargal Sharkey's song "More Love" depict a complex love triangle. The singer is jealous and hurt, and the object of his affection is torn between him and another man. He doesn't want to hear about the other man, but at the same time, he can't help but compare himself to him. The singer recognises that the other man may be physically attractive and wealthy, but he believes that there is a deeper kind of love that he can offer. Despite his passion, the singer is confused as to the meaning behind their situation. He is desperate to keep their relationship strong, but he doesn't want to feel like he's forcing her to love him. Ultimately, the singer is convinced that he loves her more than the other man ever could.

The lyrics to "More Love" are dense with emotion and relatable to many people. The song speaks to the competition and jealousy that can arise in romantic relationships. The use of imagery, such as the comparison of the other man's words to "poems of passion," help bring the situation to life. The lyrics also touch upon the singer's vulnerability and his willingness to sacrifice his own happiness for the sake of his love. In general, "More Love" is a powerful song that captures the ups and downs of complicated love.

Like 'superiorauntie', I too have been looking for this for a while. I had this on a 7" vinyl single when it came out, but again, never purchased the 'Wish' album. (Although I did buy 'Feargal Sharkey' and 'Songs From The Mardi Gras' albums). Thanks very much for posting. (Almost) a lost classic!

to be fair to him I bought a jacket like that once, so I can kinda see why he's beaten his fists against the wall and doing all that chuckin the head back bit. x x
