Piece by Piece
Feeder Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sitting on a corner street
Children playing at my feet
See the smiles on ice cream faces
Feel myself begin to sink
As the wind blows through my skin
Leaves me open to temptation

'Cause nothing ever lasts forever
We're like flowers in this vase, together

You and me, it's pulling me down
Tearing my down, piece by piece
And you can't see
That's it's like a disease
Killing me now, it's so hard to breathe

Sucking back a cigarette
Thinking about new regrets
Trying to be someone you'd like to be
Passing faces on the road
Where the hell can we still go?
Leaves us open to temptation

'Cause nothing ever lasts forever
We're like flowers in this vase, together

You and me, it's pulling me down
Tearing my down, piece by piece
And you can't see
That's it's like a disease
Killing me now, it's so hard to breathe
It's so hard to breathe

But it's worth fighting for
It's still worth fighting for
It's worth fighting for

'Cause nothing ever lasts forever
We're like flowers in this vase, together

You and me, it's pulling me down
Tearing my down, piece by piece
And you can't see
That's it's like a disease
It's killing me now, it's so hard to breathe

You and me, it's pulling me down
Tearing me down, piece by piece

And you can't see, that it's like a disease
It's killing me now, it's so hard to breathe

Overall Meaning

In "Piece by Piece", Feeder tells a story of a person who feels like they're slowly losing themselves and their identity in a world that's full of temptations, regrets and fleeting moments that don't last forever. The singer sits on a corner street, watching children play and feeling their joy and innocence as the wind blows through their skin. However, this happiness is only temporary, as they feel themselves begin to sink into the reality of life's struggles. The singer smokes a cigarette, pondering their past mistakes and trying to figure out how to be someone that others will like. They feel lost and unsure of where life will take them, and they're open to temptation.

The chorus emphasizes the idea that nothing lasts forever, and how we're all like flowers in a vase, together. The singer is being pulled down and torn piece by piece, but the people around them can't see that it's like a disease that's killing them. Despite this, the singer knows that it's worth fighting for, even though it's hard to breathe.

Overall, "Piece by Piece" is a poignant reflection on life's fleeting moments and the struggles that come with it. It reminds listeners that nothing lasts forever and that we need to fight for what's worth keeping, even when it feels like we're being pulled down and torn apart.

Yo, I am Macedonian and I love Welsh bands! But considering most of my compatriots are fcking braindead when it comes to music, it shouldn't be a surprise what you said.

Stereophonics get radio play here (the hits, plus now that they're more mainstrea) and I regularly hear "Your Love Is Not Enough" by Manic Street Preachers. LOL.

I started my music journey with Oasis, but replaced them with Stereophonics, who quickly became my favourite band along with Keane when I was 15.

Then I discovered Indie rock, so now I'm an avid listener of Feeder, Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Automatic, Manic Street Preachers, etc.

Btw, this video is definitely a nod to The Everlasting by Manic Street. Same scenario basically.

It seems like not many people love this song. How is that even possible? Well, it doesn't matter because both you and I know this song is amazing and that's all that matters.

Amazing lyrics and amazing music, one of the best songs.
" 'cause nothing ever lasts forever, we're like flowers in this vase together".
I really love it, it's too underrated, sadly.
