Feist Lyrics

Sea lion woman
She drink coffee
Sea lion woman
She drink tea
And a rooster crows

Sea lion woman
She drink coffee
She drink tea
And a rooster crows

Sea lion woman
Dressed in red
Smile at the man
When you wake up in his bed

Sea lion woman
Dressed in black
Wink at the man
Then stab him in his back

Sea lion woman
She drink coffee
She drink tea
And a rooster crows

Sea lion woman
Dressed in white
Marry the man
And you'll spend a long sweet life

Sea lion woman
Dressed in green
Silver lining and golden seams

Sea lion woman
Dressed in blue
Call on the man
And hope he knows what he can do

Sea lion...

Sea lion woman
She drink coffee
She drink tea
And a rooster crows

Sea lion woman
She drink coffee
She drink tea
And a rooster crows

Sea lion woman
Dressed in the blue
Call on the man
And hope he knows what he can do

Sea lion woman
Dressed in red
Smile at the man
When you wake up in his bed

Sea lion woman....

The Nina Simone version is obviously great, but what she did with this one is unique, respects the original, and is just really really good. There's no reason to pit artists against each other!

@clairelille

I agree

@user-mb2gm4ur5s

I think Nina Simone has wrote lesser songs in 30 years than Feist in 10,i prefer real singer songwriters plus neither wrote this tune,is a traditional folk song

@paulmason329

No one can outshine the late great Nina Simone but this is a good song . Chuck Berrys You Can't Catch Me and the Beatles Come Together borrows from See Line Woman (partly)

@brianbry93

I've used the lyrics to this version to write my GCSE music coursework composition, This is the first time i've heard how it really sounds...oh its smashing! :)

"Sea lion woman" is a slurred "Sea Line Woman". Which are women of the pleasure houses that stood on the docks when sailors would come into port in the 1950's and 60's. The different colored dresses they wore signified what kind of pleasures that they provided. The song originated by Nina Simone and was a sensual jazz /scat tune:)
