Attention Seeker
Felix Hagan & The Family Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I see her glisten in the lights
Just listening to people
Shout things they donโ€ฒt mean
She spouts worn-out carpe diems in her torn up tights and DM's
Sheโ€ฒs the queen of her wasted little scene

And if she hates me, my heart breaks
With such an earth-shaking sound
So turn and face me for my sake
You could save me if you come around
And I don't like to bare my soul to strangers
But show me yours and I'll show you mine
And weโ€ฒll dance together
One more time
Come on

Well, heโ€ฒs so single,
Searching for a simple kind of love
That withers in daylight
And in his mirror, he's a king
Heโ€ฒs a winner
He's the patron saint of each great Friday night

And if he hates me, my heart breaks
With such an earth-shaking sound
So turn and face me for my sake
You could save me if you come around
And I donโ€ฒt like to bare my soul to strangers
But show me yours and I'll show you mine
And weโ€ฒll dance together
One more time
Come on

It's not a cry for help
It's just a cry for connection
And Iโ€ฒd trade my life and health to make people pay attention
Iโ€ฒd sacrifice myself for the sake of entertainment
And die smiling when you've seen it
So sing out like you mean it

When I hear people stand and cheer,
Itโ€ฒs the dawn that shimmers in the dark

And if they hate me, my heart breaks
With such an earth-shaking sound
So turn and face me for my sake
You could save me if you come around
And I don't like to show my soul to strangers
But show me yours and Iโ€ฒll show you mine
And we'll dance together
One more time
Come on

And weโ€ฒll dance together
One more time
Come on

And we'll dance together

One more time
Come on

Overall Meaning

The song "Attention Seeker" by Felix Hagan & The Family is about two individuals who are struggling with the need for attention and validation from others. The first verse describes a woman who appears to be a performer, reciting cliches and wearing torn-up clothing to appeal to a certain crowd. Even though she puts on a facade of confidence, she is still hoping for someone to validate her and accept her for who she is. The second verse is about a man who is standard in his way of searching for love and attention. He is someone who craves the attention and validation of others, but is left feeling empty and alone.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the importance of connection and validation in our lives. It shows how the characters in the song are struggling to connect with others but are still hopeful that they can find someone who understands them. Even though they may not trust others easily, they understand that they need others to validate their existence.

Overall, the song is about the human need for attention and validation. It's about how we all need someone to see us, hear us, and validate us, even if it's just for a moment.

When you all first put this song on Soundcloud, I started crying as I was listening to it because it's so damn beautiful. I found out about the band a year ago when Frank Turner linked to the video for "Go Back Home" on Twitter and not even 48 hours later I bought both EPs plus Felix's first album. "Sing Your Last Lullaby" and "Eddie Baby" are probably my absolute favorites among them (though "favorites" among all your songs changes with every re-listen.) I haven't found a band whose music I connect with like this in a long time.
Here's hoping this album can lead to bigger things for you all and someday you can come perform in America!

Still my favourite band, and doing great as ever, really hope I get to see you live someday!

Love love love!! I will never be more grateful to Frank Turner for having you guys on tour with him. Getting to see you not once, but twice, and getting a hug from Felix himself made my birthday last year. Keep doing what you're doing and I cannot wait for this new album!!
