1) FENCE - the Belgian rockband
In 1994 four friends started to play music for fun. In 1998 their band Fence became 2e on the Humo's Rock Rally (Das Pop ended first). In the beginning of 1999 the group made their EP debut "Singapore Airlines", which was released by the Belgian indie-label Labelman. The reactions were positive, and the debut CD "The Return of Geronimo", recorded with the Dutch producer Frans Hagenaars followed.
In 2002 the first drummer of the band was replaced by a new one, and and their second album "Angels on your Body" was released. In 2005 "The Woolf", their 3rd full length album was released by Fons/Rocky Records/Excelsior.
Fence scored several hits in the Belgian alternative rock scene, and they played many concerts in Belgium and The Netherlands (including Pukkelpop, Marktrock and Maanrock). Many new successful Belgian bands (such as The Galacticos, Roadburg, Bed Rugs and Team William) have said they are infulenced by Fence.
In 2010, after a few years of radiosilence, the band started writing songs for their 4th album "Fence", which was released on April 1st, 2012. Upon release, this new album got raving reviews everywhere, marking the beginning of a new era for the band.

Christmas
Fence Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's time to fill them up it's almost been a year
Don't go easy on the food friend fish was in reclame
Fish I hear you thinking this dude must be insane
Turn up your central heating santaclause is near
No time for shaving just let grow that beard
Don't go choppin' down no pinetree I got me a spare
"Fence's song Christmas" talks about the excitement and anticipation for Christmas. The singer urges people to prepare for the festivities by filling their Santa socks and not going easy on the food. The reference to fish being in reclame could mean that fish is difficult to buy or expensive during this season, but despite that, people should still indulge in it. The central heating is to be turned up, and men should avoid shaving to let their beards grow. The singer discourages cutting down a pine tree by saying he already has a spare one. He advises people to wear fluffy clothing to brace themselves since Santa is on his way.
The lyrics evoke a sense of cheerfulness and sociability, but it also sends a message to be environment-friendly by not cutting down trees. The singer also insists on enjoying the traditions of Christmas and not holding back, but still being mindful of the impact that it may have on the environment. The song has a conversational tone, making it easy to relate to and engage with the lyrics. The melody is upbeat, and the instrumentation features acoustic guitars, bass, and drums, giving it a folksy and upbeat vibe.
