Being di… Read Full Bio ↴Fenne Lily is a British singer-songwriter based in Bristol.
Being discouraged from watching TV as a child was integral to the development of Fenne Lily's musicality, as instead much of her time was spent writing songs and honing both instrumental and understatement in equal measures.
At the age of 17 she began travelling to Bristol from her home in Dorset, and within a year found herself suporting the likes of Marika Hackman, Marlon Williams, KT Tunstall, C Duncan, and Palace, among many more. Soon after she self-released her debut single 'Top to Toe' - a song she had written when she was only 15 - which aling with her next two singles amassed over 20 million streams in the next 18 months.
A prolific artist, she soon found herself collaborating with a number of other musicians, including Aldous Harding and fellow Bristolians Tamu Massif & Oliver Wilde.
Throughout this whole time however, she has been writing for her own songs. Enlisting some musical friends to join her and recording with one foot on the Isle of Wight and one in Bristol, Fenne completed her debut album due in 2018.

Three Oh Nine

And you show me how it is to know a man
And it all seems right
When we talk through the night
How could I know how this would go?
It's a first for me
It's too good to be
Please don't leave
Please don't leave
So I let go moments at a time
'Cause I know soon I am losing what is mine
But I say too much to justify your touch
How could I know how this would go?
It's a first for me
It's a pain I need
It's too good to be
Please don't leave
It's a first for me
It's a pain I need
It's too good to be
Please don't leave
Please don't leave
In Fenne Lily's song "Three Oh Nine," the lyrics depict a love that is bittersweet and all-consuming. The singer is advised to "hold him while you can," and it is clear that she cherishes every moment with her lover. She declares that "it all seems right" when they talk through the night, but she also acknowledges that she doesn't know how this relationship will go. She is in uncharted territory, experiencing a first that she needs, even though it is a pain.
The singer struggles with letting go of her lover, knowing that she will soon lose what is hers. She takes it one moment at a time, but she fears that she says too much to justify her touch. The song's chorus repeats the lines "It's a first for me / It's a pain I need / It's too good to be / Please don't leave" indicating that the singer is willing to endure the pain of first love, even though it is too good to be true. She pleads with her lover not to leave her, showing that she has become fully invested in this relationship.
Overall, "Three Oh Nine" is a poignant reflection on the all-consuming nature of first love. The lyrics show that the singer is experiencing intense emotions that are both beautiful and painful, and she is willing to do anything to hold onto the person she loves.
