Near You
Ferlin Husky Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's just one place for me near you it's like heaven to be near you
Times when we're apart I can't face my heart
Say you'll never stray more than just two lips away
If my time could be spent near you I'd be more than content near you
Make my life worthwhile by telling me that I'll spend the rest of my days near you

Times when we're apart...

Since you've gone
The moon, the sun, the stars in the sky
Know the reason why I cry
Love divine once was mine
Now you've gone

Since you've gone
My heart, my lips, my tear dimmed eyes
A lonely soul within me cries
I acted smart, broke your heart
Now you've gone

Oh, what I'd give
For the lifetime I've wasted
The love that I've tasted
I was wrong, now you've gone

Oh, what I'd give
For the lifetime I've wasted
The love that I've tasted
I was wrong, now you've gone

"A lonely soul within me cries." This line is so pure and a feeling everyone knows very well while never discussing it with anybody.

I have been waiting to access this song on YT for some time, now. After listening to the original recording of Gone from 1956 on the radio several years ago, I FINALLY get to see Ferlin Husky sing it on a Grand Ole Opry telecast from the early 60's. Thank you, thank you for this video. Lovely melody.

This is an incredible live version that leaves the studio release in the shadows for sure, that's how you can tell a SINGER! when they really SING IT! like Ferlin does here

Soul comes from the "heart",
Not a matter of " pigment".
But feeling and emotion.
Thank you Ferlin.

i met Ferlin Husky in June 2007 at the Rockin' 50s Gala in Green Bay, Wisconsin and got to spend some time with him. We were talking about "Gone" and "Snow White Dove", his other hit. Ferlin told me that although "Gone" was his first hit and well received, many more records of "Snow White Dove" were sold. He was the nicest guy you can imagine, even though he was in a lot of discomfort due to blockages in the blood vessels in his legs. Shortly after his appearance at the gala, he was admitted to the hospital. Sadly, he passed away in 2011. Somewhere I have a photo of him and me. He was a quality guy.

Your blessed to meet Ferlin. My mom was a big fan. He came on the radio. I love his singing. Great voice he had. He is missed.
