Agua
Fernando Cabrera Lyrics

maestros del insomnio
y de las tristes vías.
Agua que inunda tu boca
hablaste mal de recuerdos
de las noches mías.
Agua que plancha tu pelo
que toqué con mis manos.
Agua que inunda mi espejo
llenando de borrones
mi cara llorando.
Agua roja que me brota
de las venas rotas
sangre que me falta.
Agua que se vuelve blanca
agua que te desnuda
todas las mañanas.
Agua que bebe un arroyo
temprano de pájaros
y lavanderas.
Agua de las escupidas
agua de los sudores
y de las letrinas.
Agua que saca de quicio
la valiente paciencia
de todos mis hermanos.
Agua que planchar tu pelo
el mejor encordado
que tocó mi mano
The song "Agua" by Fernando Cabrera is a moving and evocative piece that explores the different meanings and emotions that water can evoke in our lives. The lyrics are full of rich imagery and poetic language that create a sense of longing, sadness, and beauty that is universal and deeply relatable. The song speaks to the many facets of water, from the tears that fall from one's eyes to the life-giving force of a babbling brook.
The first verse begins with the line "Agua que cae de tus ojos" (water that falls from your eyes) which sets the tone for the rest of the song. The water is a metaphor for tears, which are often associated with sadness and grief. The next lines, "maestros del insomnio y de las tristes vías" (masters of insomnia and sad paths), suggest that tears and sadness can be overwhelming and leave a deep impact on our lives. The second verse continues with the theme of sadness and memory, with the line "Agua que inunda tu boca, hablaste mal de recuerdos de las noches mías" (water that floods your mouth, you spoke ill of memories of my nights).
The third verse shifts gears and focuses on a different aspect of water - its ability to cleanse and renew. The lines "Agua que plancha tu pelo, el mejor encordado que tocó mi mano" (water that straightens your hair, the best cord that my hand played) suggest a sense of intimacy and connection with another person, as well as the idea that water can be a powerful cleansing force. The fourth verse returns to the theme of sadness and loss, with the line "Agua roja que me brota de las venas rotas, sangre que me falta" (red water that springs from my broken veins, blood that I lack).
The fifth verse explores the idea of water as a symbol of purity and rebirth, with the line "Agua que se vuelve blanca, agua que te desnuda todas las mañanas" (water that turns white, water that undresses you every morning). The sixth verse takes a more realistic and even unpleasant turn, with the lines "Agua que bebe un arroyo temprano de pájaros y lavanderas, agua de las escupidas, agua de los sudores y de las letrinas" (water that a stream drinks early in the morning of birds and washerwomen, water of spit, water of sweat and of toilets).
The final verse brings together many of the different themes and images that the song has explored, with the line "Agua que saca de quicio la valiente paciencia de todos mis hermanos" (water that drives all my brothers' brave patience crazy) suggesting that water can evoke both positive and negative emotions, and can be both beautiful and overwhelming at the same time.
Overall, "Agua" is a song that explores the many different meanings and emotions that water can evoke in our lives, from sadness and loss to purity and rebirth, and everything in between.
