Storm
Fernando Ortega Lyrics

The scent of rain, the weight of clouds pulling down the sky
Sometimes it takes a storm to know how you feel
To understand indigo and the varnished sun lighting up the fields
It takes the rain between the lines to know what sorrow finds
The way a cloud divides sometimes, the clearing and the blue, I love you
I was just passing through and taken by surprise
Between the black sky and the blue, I love you, I love you
In Fernando Ortega's song Storm, the lyrics speak to the power of a storm to make one truly appreciate the light. The opening line, "sometimes it takes a storm to really know the light" is a metaphor for the challenges and trials that one may face in life. These challenges can make one appreciate the good times and blessings in their life that they may have overlooked before. The following lines describe the physical sensations of a storm, such as the scent of rain and the weight of clouds that pull down the sky. These descriptions capture the feeling of being caught up in something bigger than oneself and the importance of taking notice of it.
The lyrics continue to emphasize the importance of a storm in understanding one's emotions. In order to truly understand feelings of sadness or sorrow, one may need to experience a storm that mimics those emotions. The line "it takes the rain between the lines to know what sorrow finds" speaks to the way in which the nuances in life can help us fully understand our emotions. The last few lines convey the singer's love for someone, with the storm serving as a backdrop for the intensity of their feelings.
Overall, the song Storm is a reminder that even though storms may be difficult and trying, they can lead to growth and understanding if we allow them to.
