Into The Dark
Ferry Corsten Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Or did you fall asleep
Was your vision closing in
Did the light play tricks upon you
Was the window shut
As you lay on your bed
Was there someone creeping in
And slowly, but surely
Taking away from me
(2X)
How can you fall into the dark
When my arms are there to catch you
How will I ever lose my way
With your open hand to cling to
I think I'm breaking through
I'll wake you from this sleep
One kiss surely that will do
Then the ice will melt around you
And slowly, but surely
Bringing you back to me
(4X)
How can you fall into the dark
When my arms are there to catch you
How will I ever lose my way
With your open hand to cling to
Ferry Corsten's song, "Into The Dark," sung by Howard Jones, is a song about being there for someone who has lost their way in life. The lyrics are a mix of confusion and reassurance, as the singer tries to understand what has happened to their loved one and offer comfort at the same time. The opening lines question whether the person has lost their mind or simply fallen asleep, wondering if something is wrong with their sensory perception. They ask if perhaps the light is playing tricks on them or if there is someone creeping around in the dark.
The rest of the song is all about reassuring the person in question. The singer asks how they can fall into the dark when their arms are there to catch them, and how they will ever lose their way when they have an open hand to cling to. They promise to be there for the person, to wake them up from their sleep and be the kiss that melts the ice around them. The song ends with the promise of bringing the person back to the light, slowly but surely.
Overall, the song is an expression of love and devotion, with the singer promising to always be there for the person they care about, no matter what happens. It is a powerful message of hope that speaks to the importance of human connection and how love can help us overcome even the darkest moments of our lives.

I think you lost your mind
I believe you've gone insane or are acting out of character
Or did you fall asleep
Or perhaps you have simply dozed off
Was your vision closing in
Did your sight become limited or blurry
Did the light play tricks upon you
Were your eyes deceived by an optical illusion
Was the window shut
Did you close the window before laying down
As you lay on your bed
While you were resting on your sleeping area
Was there someone creeping in
Did someone sneak into your room
Did the vapours squirt around your head
Did a misty or hazy substance spray or flow near your cranium
And slowly, but surely
Gradually, yet with certainty
Taking away from me
Separating and removing from my presence
How can you fall into the dark
How could you become lost or tangled in negative circumstances
When my arms are there to catch you
When I am here to offer support and assistance
How will I ever lose my way
How could I become lost or uncertain
With your open hand to cling to
When I have your helping hand to guide me
I think I'm breaking through
I believe I am starting to make progress or headway
I'll wake you from this sleep
I'll rouse you from your slumber
One kiss surely that will do
Just one kiss will be enough for you to feel better
Then the ice will melt around you
Then your cold or distant demeanor will thaw
Bringing you back to me
Returning you to my side and my care
