Possession
Ferry Corsten Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The fall revealed all it took from me
All is said, there's nothing more to prove
To spare a second thought
An image of a dream, I will replace and hide
Inside, I'm a storm, I will break to hold on
I'm eager to please, so much I deceive
I love with the thought of possession
Possession, possession
All feels wrong when you're away from me
The thought that nothing is what it seems
No escape I cannot fight
To be to blame I'm left behind
An image of a dream I will forget I hide
Inside, I'm a storm, I will break to hold on
I love with the thought of possession
I'm eager to please, so much I deceive
I love with the thought of possession
I know I can let go
I know I won't let go of possession
Inside, I'm a storm, I will break to hold on
I love with the thought of possession
I'm eager to please, so much I deceive
I love with the thought of possession
The lyrics of Ferry Corsten's song Possession, speak to the unrelenting desire that comes with the thought of being in possession of the things we desire, such as love. The opening lyrics paint a bleak picture of lost innocence, with a cold wind blowing and stealing everything away. It is as if the singer has already given up all that they once held dear. The fall has revealed what they have lost, and they are left to ponder if it was all worth it. The imagery used in the song, such as 'an image of a dream I will replace and hide' speaks of the need to bury past hurt and pain, and move on to something better.
The chorus 'Inside, I'm a storm, I will break to hold on, I love with the thought of possession' reveals the desperation that comes with the need to hold on to love. It is as if the singer is saying that they will do anything to keep their love, even if it means breaking themselves in the process. It is an interesting twist that the idea of possession is not limited to the material things we want, but also to love and relationships.
Overall, Possession is a poignant song that explores the complexities of love and desire. It reveals the lengths we will go to possess the things we love and how sometimes, that obsession can break us in the process.
