Blue Lights
Fictional Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I am standing at the shore
See the ferries passing by
Waiting for the final day
Which almost never comes

I see blue lights in your eyes
Reflections of another land
Our golden sun will rise
I will wait untill the end

I will never understand
Why I've lost you
Remembering your face again
When I found you

I see blue lights in your eyes
Reflections of another land
Our golden sun will rise
I will wait untill the end

Your hair still smells like the sea
Your blue lips are so cold
I would really die to see
Your pale skin in the light

I see blue lights in your eyes
Reflections of another land
Our golden sun will rise
I will wait untill the end

So your'e gone forever
Will never be awake again

But I am still waiting
For the day which never comes

Overall Meaning

"Fictional's song Blue Lights" is a melancholic song about waiting for something that will almost never happen. The lyrics reflect a person's longing for someone they lost, and their desire to see them again even though they have passed away. The song starts with the singer standing at the shore and watching the ferries pass by, waiting for a day that almost never comes. They see blue lights in the eyes of the person they have lost, which reflects another land, and they wait until the end.

The lyrics explore the theme of loss and the desire to hold on to what was once there. The singer remembers the face of the person they have lost, but they will never understand why they lost them. They describe the person's hair still smelling like the sea, their blue lips, and their pale skin in the light. The singer still sees blue lights in the eyes of the person they lost, and they wait until the end.

The final lines of the song convey the singer's acceptance of the fact that the person they lost is gone forever, yet they are still waiting for the day that will never come. This song portrays the deep pain, loss, and longing for someone who has left this world.

This song came up for me randomly on my playlist yesterday and I haven't heard it in forever, it's always nice when songs you loved just randomly pop up years later 💜

I always danced to this song. Fictional played live at a club called Barbarella, located in downtown Orlando, Florida during 2001.
The vocalist had good stage presence, but he was reading song lyrics from a small notebook.
The show sounded great, and the band chilled in the bar afterwards.

@audiblezero

Fictional was created by Gerrit Thomas of Funker Vogt and Ravenous. Tim Fockenbrock, the vocalist here, was also the vocalist for Ravenous.

The show at Barbarella was only one of two times that Fictional performed live in the States, but it was also the only show where Funker Vogt, Fictional, and Ravenous played the same night.

I was in Tampa, but had the flu, so I missed out.

@WinstonVanCoon

Thank you, I'd forgotten Garret Thomas was Funker Vogt, Ravenous, and Fictional's songwriter.

I used to dance to this at The Church nightclub in Denver Colorado years ago.

This song reminds me of the 1980’s-1990’s “Medieval” style tv shows. The one’s that are about the couples who are “destined to be together, and nothing could tear them apart.” The shows that were always filmed during twilight or sunset.
