The band has kept up the mix of traditional Irish or Scottish songs and self-written tracks, though the self-written tracks have progressively become less and less folky. The band's influences are wide and varied, but obviously heavily influenced by Celtic rock bands like the Pogues, the Waterboys and Great Big Sea. Recent albums also see a clear influence from Gothic rock music. Having enjoyed growing success in and around Germany, the band reached 1000 played concerts in 2004 (the only band member to play them all is bass player Rainer Schulz), which was celebrated with a concert at Castle Hoheneck. This concert was filmed and released on two DVDs: Celebrate! and Jubilate! The concert saw participation from former band members and other guest musicians. Main lyric and music writer Peter Pathos has left the band in summer 2006 and was replaced by Patrick 'Pat' Prziwara. A live DVD Folk's not dead was released to celebrate the band's 20th anniversary in 2010

summer song
Fiddler's Green Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And high above some birds are passing by
I wonder where they'll be tonight
The heat is on, it burns my skin
And it feels so good, I know that I will win
Everything is going to be alright
But there's a breeze
With a song
That will never ever cease for me
Feels like coming home
To you - again
The air is flickering from the heat
But I can't stand still I've got that city beat
And it makes me run around in town
I float two feet above the ground
And this crazy world keeps spinnin' round and round
I'm speedin' up I'm switchin' to warp 5
Don't go, I'm beggin' you, tonight
Don't go, you make me feel alright
The lyrics of Fiddler's Green's Summer Song talk about the freshness of a summer day with the high sky and birds flying overhead. The singer has a sense of wonder about where these birds will be at night. The heat of the day is prevalent, and it feels good on the skin as if it brings a sense of victory. A refreshing breeze blows from far away, never-ending with the song of a distant, unknown land. This breeze brings a sense of feeling at home again.
The singer cannot stand being still and immobile as the city beat pumps the adrenaline in the blood. The fast pace of life makes it difficult to maintain a routine, and the world seems to spin around as things move faster than before. But the singer is thrilled to be alive and speed up for warp 5. The chorus emphasizes a feeling of love and belonging in the arms of someone tonight, which enhances the desire to stay and not let them go away.
The song's lyrics imply a bittersweet approach, which strikes a chord with the listener. The refreshing beats and rhythmic melody create a sense of nostalgia where we long to be in a different place, and it all revolves around the idea of summers past. The song talks about beautiful summer memories, and the idea of time being fleeting emphasizes the transience of life, how quickly events pass by, and how beautiful memories are never lost.
