Lose Control
Fifth Way Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Another night, a rampage is about to begin. Too much of everything, feeding this life of sin.
Want it all, taking more, just another trip
I've done it all and I'll do it all again
This addiction is burning the pages of my life. I try to slow things down but I lose control at night.
I'm on the run, never done, now I'm running on fumes.
I want to come, gotta come, but not until you're through
Want to ride out this high, it fuels my life.
I always got to be the one to lose control at night.

At it again, it never ends, I haven't slept in a week.
My heart is racing but I think it's skipping beats.
On the edge, fighting time to find another vice.
I swear I'm done and then I do it one more time.
Cause this addiction is burning the pages of my life.
I try to slow things down but I lose control at night.

I'm on the run, never done, now I'm running on fumes.
Want to come, got to come, but not until you're through.
Want to ride out this high, it fuels my life.
I always got to be the one to lose control at night.
LEAD
This addiction is burning the pages of my life. I try to slow it down, then I lose control every night.
Banged up, about to fall for dead. The wheels are spinning but there's nothing in my head.
Hands are shaking, eyes are heavy, about to overload.
I bump a line and now I'm ready to lose control.
On the run, never done, I'm running on fumes
Want to come, got to come, but not until you're through.
Want to ride out this high, it fuels my life.
I've always got to be the one to lose control at night.

The one to lose control at night
Always the one to lose control at night

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Fifth Way's song Lose Control depict the struggles of addiction and the constant battle to maintain control. The singer is indulging in a life of sin, taking more than they should and constantly seeking out the next high. They acknowledge that this addiction is consuming their life and they try to slow down, yet they are unable to resist the desire to lose control once again. The repetition of the phrase "on the run, never done" emphasizes the continuous cycle of addiction and how it is difficult to break free from. Despite the destructive nature of their actions, the singer cannot resist the allure of the high and the rush that it brings.

The line "this addiction is burning the pages of my life" is particularly impactful, as it shows how addiction can consume and destroy one's entire existence. The imagery of burning pages is a powerful metaphor for the perpetual destruction of one's identity and history.

Lose Control is always a great opening song at a FifthWay show. This might be the best version of Lose Control I have seen. I didn't see this one live though. One of the few.
