The band was among the first acts of a renewed wave of shoegazing music, harkening back to the late-1980s and early 1990s heyday of that genre. Although My Bloody Valentine is the most well-known of the shoegazers, Film School tends to hew more closely to the less stridently noisy bands from the original scene--bands such as Slowdive and Blind Mr. Jones. When Film School ups the tempo, their cascading guitars and background harmonies of "ooh" and "aah"--washed-out spins on classic mid-60s pop--they can also sound like Ride, another prominent band in the original shoegazing scene.
Film School today are now based in Los Angeles. Current members are: Greg Bertens, Dave Dupuis, Lorelei Plotczyk, Jason Ruck, James Smith . Previous members have included Nyles Lannon, Justin LaBo, Donny Newenhouse.

A record mile from that town
And all the time I looked for something
I lived alone in my heart
Oh man we got harmed
Oh man we got harmed
And this picture that I thought I'd recognize
Tell myself I have the whole day
Been circling round in the town
And all the ways I hoped to find out
I never thought this'd be how
Oh man we got harmed
Oh man you got harmed
And this picture that I thought I'd recognize
Oh man we got harmed
In Film School's song "Harmed", the lyrics describe a person who is searching for something and feeling isolated and alone despite being in the midst of a town. The character ran a record mile away from the town, potentially as an attempt to escape or to clear their mind. They express disappointment that they were unable to find what they were looking for and feel a sense of harm.
The repetition of the phrase "Oh man we got harmed" creates a sense of urgency and concern, which is reflective of the character's state of mind. The line "And this picture that I thought I'd recognize" suggests that the person's expectations and assumptions about their surroundings have been shattered, and they are struggling to come to terms with this. The experience has left them feeling harmed, possibly emotionally or mentally.
The chorus is both haunting and catchy, with a strong emphasis on the harm that has been inflicted. The repetition of "oh man" creates a sense of angst and frustration, while the word "harmed" conveys a sense of vulnerability and pain.
Overall, "Harmed" is a powerful exploration of the emotions associated with feeling lost and disconnected from one's surroundings. The lyrics are evocative and poignant, and the song has a haunting quality that lingers long after it is over.
