The band was among the first acts of a renewed wave of shoegazing music, harkening back to the late-1980s and early 1990s heyday of that genre. Although My Bloody Valentine is the most well-known of the shoegazers, Film School tends to hew more closely to the less stridently noisy bands from the original scene--bands such as Slowdive and Blind Mr. Jones. When Film School ups the tempo, their cascading guitars and background harmonies of "ooh" and "aah"--washed-out spins on classic mid-60s pop--they can also sound like Ride, another prominent band in the original shoegazing scene.
Film School today are now based in Los Angeles. Current members are: Greg Bertens, Dave Dupuis, Lorelei Plotczyk, Jason Ruck, James Smith . Previous members have included Nyles Lannon, Justin LaBo, Donny Newenhouse.

Drawn, always been there by your side
Miles away and I see inside
All the makeup, all the makeup
Can't hide what's inside
It's doubtful you're alright
She's always by your side
Drowned, the weight was wasted on that night
Drawn away, miles away and no one in sight
Drawn away, miles away, you ask me inside
It's doubtful you're alright
She's always by your side
It's doubtful you're alright
She's always by your side
It's doubtful you're alright
She's always by your side
In your sight, in your sight
The lyrics of Film School's song "Sick Hipster Nursed By Suicide Girl" seem to be about a person who is constantly accompanied by their partner ("always there by your side"), yet despite this, they are not truly happy ("It's doubtful you're alright"), and are perhaps dealing with some internal struggles that cannot be hidden with makeup ("All the makeup, all the makeup/Can't hide what's inside"). The second verse delves into a darker imagery, with the lines "Drowned, the weight was wasted on that night/Drawn away, miles away and no one in sight". These lines could imply that something tragic has happened to the singer or their partner, and they are feeling lost.
The chorus repeats the idea that the person may not be okay, despite their partner always being there for them. It is unclear who the "she" in the song refers to - it could be the partner, or perhaps a more metaphorical representation of their struggles. The last lines of the song, "In your sight, in your sight", suggest that the singer is aware that their inner turmoil is being observed and that they cannot simply hide it from the world.
Overall, "Sick Hipster Nursed By Suicide Girl" seems to be a melancholic exploration of the complexities of mental health and relationships.
