Captain Bligh

I give you one good tiny reason I think you could believe it
I give you one good tiny reason I think you could see through it
I'm not the kind of man that thinks the choke could hurt me
I'm not the kind of man that thinks the choke can see me

And you know a little bit goes a long way
And you know a little bit lasts a long time
And the time has come
To undo the wrong I've done

I am a grieving man
I can't believe the things I've done for you
I am a guilty man
I can't believe the things I've done for you

I give you one good tiny reason to push that big suit too far
I give you one good tiny reason to smash him and his big car
Everybody thinks I'm blue
Everybody thinks it's true
And I just can't keep in side

So you think it's you
So you think it's true
And you know a little bit lasts a long time
And you know a little bit goes a long way
And the time has come
To undo the wrong I've done

I am a grieving man
I can't believe the things I've done for you
I am a beaten man
I can't believe the things I've done for you

I am a blessed man
I can't believe the things I've done for you
I am a guilty man
I can't believe the things I've done for you

I am a grieving man
I can't believe the things I've done for you
I am a beaten man
I can't believe the things I've done for you

I tried to break...
I tried to break...
I tried to break...
Yes I will give it a shot...

Yes I will give it a shot...
Yes I will give it a shot...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Filter's song "Captain Bligh" are a poetic representation of a man who is struggling to come to terms with his own actions. The first verse highlights the fact that the man feels he has a single reason that justifies his actions, but he knows that it is not enough. He is aware that it may seem minute but it can lead to a bigger problem. The word 'choke' in this context, refers to his emotional state of being suffocated or trapped.

In the second verse, he acknowledges that he has done something wrong and he is finally ready to undo it. His regret is palpable and he describes himself as a "grieving man" and a "guilty man". He confesses that he is struggling to believe the things he has done for her, perhaps implying that he has changed himself for her and it has led him in a direction he cannot handle.

The final section of the song is him coming to terms with the situation, realizing that he has tried to break free. He says that he will give it a shot, suggesting that he is ready to fight and undo the wrong he has done.

Overall, the song can be interpreted as an introspective look at the negative effects of being in a toxic relationship and the potential passive-aggressive behaviours that can result from that. The lyrical structure and sound is meant to be haunting.

Can I give a big kudos to the creator of the animation that plays during all these Title of Record songs? It's not just the album cover come to life, but it resembles a circa 1999 Winamp visualization which is exactly how I listened to this album back when it came out.

@tjanas

Listening to this album on Winamp right now in 2023 with my CD-to-FLAC rip

@Mskenergy

Exactly how I remembered it in 1999 I downloaded a preview of take a picture it was slow on win 98 😂 ah the memories these songs bring back

@tyson80

This crushes my 42year old soul with nostalgia. I almost can't listen to this, it's so intense. But beyond beautiful.

It's 2022, spending the weekend in a cloud of Filter. From the 90's and 2000's the music these guys created. 65 years old so I know rock from the 1950's to today...the best of their generation. Filter, enough said!

@RJ-xv5pd

One of the best endings to a song ever

3 years late but I made an extension to it if you want to check it out

@SrChr778

Takes me back to my High School years, this album. This music was one of the few pleasant memories I had.
After a long day, half the time stressful, listening to this very album before going to sleep was my blissful meditation.
