Language
Filth & Splendour Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And there was war in heaven
Michael and his angels fought against the dragon
And the dragon fought, and his angels
And prevailed not
Neither was their place found any more in heaven
And the great dragon was cast out
That old serpent called the Devil and Satan
Which deceiveth the whole world
He was cast out into the earth

And his angels were cast out with him

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Filth & Splendour's song Language are actually taken from the biblical book of Revelation, chapter 12, verses 7-9. These verses describe a battle between Michael and his angels, who represent the forces of good, and the dragon and his angels, who represent the forces of evil. The dragon is identified as Satan, who is cast out of heaven along with his followers.

The song's meaning can be interpreted in a few different ways. On one level, it could be seen as a cautionary tale about the dangers of pride and rebellion, as Satan's desire for power ultimately leads to his downfall. On another level, it could be interpreted as a metaphor for the struggle between good and evil that exists within each of us.

Musically, Language is a dark and haunting track with a pulsating beat and atmospheric synths. The use of the biblical verses gives the song a weighty and epic feel, as if it's describing a cosmic battle of epic proportions.
