Literally heavensward and shadowbringers are the pinnacle of writing in games
Emet selch is THE BEST VILLAIN EVER WRITTEN and heavenswards cast of main characters is just so well written they literally feel like real people
Which is hard especially in games

***** No it isn't? Ascalon has several spikes along the cross-guard, a cross for the pummel, and a smoother blade in general. Excalibur lacks the spikes on the cross-guard, a crystal or something for the pummel, and has gold trim along the edge and fuller of the blade, and the blade also has a kind of jagged/groove thing going on at the edge closer to the point. They're completely different weapons and both have been featured in FF games before. The kicker though is that, even though he wields it the way he does here, Ascalon is a Great Sword. If this were to become a relic, ironically, it would be the Dark Knight's, not the Paladin's.

idk man, the original Ultimate End only lasts for around 1 min 30 secs, which is certainly shorter than the entire assault from the knight in this battle. Though obviously there are some parts where the knights are just there attacking while the players whittling down their HP and there are some other timed mechanics as well.

I agree. He goes all out, exhausting his power and ends up attacking wildly out of desperation. I laughed when I saw it the first time. This fight is my favorite out of FFXIV, not only for the awesome callbacks to FFVII but because of all the little things like that as well.

He throws the most powerful combination attack in existence at you, after a grueling battle, with the power of the warring triad, an ancient dragon eye and 1000 years of faith behind him. Most parties come out of it utterly unharmed. I think anyone would lose their composure after that, especially a 'God King' as arrogant as Thordin was. Kudos to the animation team for that exhausted, desperate swings animation.

In my memory, this summon is only show in FF7 and never been used by following series.
And the FF14 team just put whole concept of Heavensward base on this forgotten FF material. so beautiful.

Technically, there was "Crusaders" on FF 6, which probably inspired Knights of the Round in FF 7. And in the movie prequel of FF 15 the knights appear again, summoned at the end of the movie. But that one was released a year after Heavensward.

So a fun thing about this fight:

The 12 knights are the knights of round.
They're all the Heavensward Knights, using Primal envoking to take on the forms of the original 12 knights of Thordan The 1st and his Son (the original Dragoon, one of the 12)
The statues in front of the Vault consist of 4 spears, 4 swords, and 4 Axe. (Excluding Thordan's statue)
Yet none of the statues have staffs, which at least 2 of the Knights have.

If you watch carefully, you'll notice that the knights appear in the same order they did in the original knights of the round summon attack in FF7.

You can see it clearly when the fire, ice and comet mages appear.

Another fun facts: King Thordan takes the place of king arthur and the knight at 0:23 takes the place of Sir Lancelot. (as do the others of the other named knights)

I would be pretty shook too if my master plan to bring peace across the world while atoning for my forefathers' sins was thwarted by my first true opponent. Especially when said plan took a millennium to come to fruition, not to mention all the sacrifices and the lies we had to maintain to keep everything going.

When I talk to my linkshell on voice and they bring this up I'm like "you mean the giant light show?" lol This fight is fantastic to look at and the summon is amazing but it is unbelievably easy. Bismark and Ravana normal are both harder than this fight. That being said I don't avoid this one if someone needs "help" with it. I consider it a break from the grind. ;)

+Jonathan Wrend Ultimate End is also the NAME of the attack. Knights of the Round is the summoning of the Knights versus the actual final attack being Ultimate End. I am sure in the EX version if you take too long you will die to Ultimate End as a form of hard-DPS check.

Yeah, before he was overly confident, then he realizes who he's dealing with and starts to panic. By the end he's desperate, out of juice and finally realizing that you aren't called the "Primal Slayer" for no reason. Ravana was a tougher fight than this dude....That's right, Elezen-pope....you are literally more insignificant than an insect.

Once we got past thordan's ultimate and all his God power, there was nothing left. It was basically beating a drunkard in the drunken wench at that point.

The first time when I went in there for the story version and when the music started... still getting goosebumps thinking about it, damn this was so epic. The fight was pretty much a pushover, but the epic nearly cinematic feeling it captured made it one of the best experiences I had in this game.

This was a cool boss I just thought it was weird how you just easily beat him. He did like reality breaking moves and your character just kind of shrugs it off, He literally takes you to space a and cracks the screen. I feel like more could have been done with him maybe he can make a return idk, but this is easily one of my favorite sound tracks it just seemed so fresh like it had a majestic church choir like singing in it. My chest feels weird when I listen to it.

Does this boss music give anyone else goosebumps?!? I swear every time I listen to this I get chills! Its absolutely incredibly powerful music, from the deep drum line to the religious almost demonic chanting in the background! It's not demonic chanting. It's based off of Gregorian chant, used in Mass during the Middle Ages. Quite the opposite from demonic.
